Collagen facial in Singapore what a facial can and cannot rebuild

Collagen applied to the skin moisturises the surface; it does not become your collagen. New collagen comes from signals that reach the dermis, such as retinoids, controlled heat, microneedling and biostimulators, and it builds over months.

Quick answer

  • A facial that applies collagen can leave skin smoother and better hydrated, but collagen is far too large to pass the skin barrier and rebuild collagen in the dermis. Harvard's Nutrition Source states that collagen fibres are too large to permeate the skin's outer layers.
  • What prompts the skin to make its own collagen is a signal reaching the dermis: topical retinoids, controlled heat from focused ultrasound, laser, radiofrequency or microplasma, microneedling, and injectable biostimulators. Change builds over weeks to months.
  • At SkinRev Lab, a non-invasive aesthetic centre at CityLink Mall, the treatments aimed at collagen support are SKINTIGHT microplasma (S$588 per zone) and SKINLIFT® Face (S$888), with the Rejuran® PDRN Facial (S$128 to S$348) for skin quality. HydraFacial Syndeo (S$288 to S$438) is for hydration and clarity. All before GST.
  • Deeper options, such as collagen biostimulators, RF microneedling and HIFU, are performed by Dr Sin Yong at IN Eternity Clinic and priced at consultation by the clinic.

What people mean by a collagen facial

In Singapore, collagen facial is used for three different things: a facial with collagen masks or serums; a collagen boost treatment that uses heat or another form of energy aimed at the deeper skin; and skin renewal facials that exfoliate the surface. They do very different jobs.

Collagen gives the dermis, the deeper layer of skin, its firmness. The body makes less of it with age, and production drops faster with excess sun, smoking, excess alcohol and poor sleep. A facial can make the surface look smoother and more hydrated within the hour. Rebuilding collagen is slower, and it needs a signal that reaches the dermis.

The evidence

Why collagen on the skin does not become your collagen

The skin's outer layer is built to keep large molecules out. A widely cited review proposed that a compound generally needs a molecular weight under 500 daltons to be absorbed through skin. Collagen is a large structural protein, and Harvard's Nutrition Source states that collagen fibres are too large to permeate the skin's outer layers.

Researchers developing a micronised collagen cream put the starting point plainly: applied in a cream, collagen does not penetrate the skin and leaves its structure unaffected. Their laboratory work on skin samples suggested very small particles could pass further, but it did not show new collagen being made. Treat a collagen mask or serum as a moisturiser: pleasant, hydrating and temporary.

Collagen drinks are a separate question. A 2025 meta-analysis of 23 randomised trials found improvements across all studies, but no effect in trials without industry funding or in the high-quality trials, and concluded there is currently no clinical evidence to support collagen supplements for skin ageing.

What works

What actually prompts the skin to make collagen

New collagen is made by fibroblasts, cells in the dermis that respond to specific signals. The main ones with published evidence:

  • Topical retinoids: in a randomised, vehicle-controlled trial in older adults, 0.4% retinol applied for 24 weeks improved fine wrinkles and increased procollagen I in biopsies from a small subgroup. A retinoid is the most practical at-home step.
  • Controlled heat: focused ultrasound, lasers, radiofrequency and microplasma warm the dermis enough to trigger a repair response. A review of Asian skin notes that deep heating with radiofrequency and infrared sources tightens skin and helps contour the lower face and jawline.
  • Microneedling: in a retrospective series of 480 patients, biopsies in 20 showed a considerable increase in collagen and elastin six months after treatment. It was not a controlled trial.
  • Biostimulators: in a 14-person study, injectable poly-L-lactic acid produced a statistically significant increase in type I collagen at three and six months.
  • Sun protection: it does not build collagen, but excess sun speeds its loss, so it protects whatever the other steps achieve.

Timing

How long collagen remodelling takes

Collagen is rebuilt on the body's repair timetable. In wound healing, the remodelling phase begins around day 21 and can continue for up to a year, as weaker type III collagen is gradually replaced by stronger type I.

In practice, a same-day glow after any facial is hydration and a cleaner surface, not new collagen. Focused ultrasound is judged over two to three months, a non-ablative laser such as FSX builds over one to two months after each session, and biostimulators work over months. Plan a course, and compare photographs taken weeks apart rather than the mirror the next morning.

SkinRev Lab

SkinRev Lab treatments aimed at collagen support

Treatments at SkinRev Lab are performed by our Aesthetic Specialists. Prices are per session, before GST; a course is planned at your assessment, and results vary.

  • SKINTIGHT: microplasma on the Alma PrimeX. A pin-tip applicator forms microscopic channels in the surface while conducting heat into the dermis, which prompts collagen renewal over the following weeks. For crepey or loose skin, texture and enlarged pores on the face, eyes, neck or body. About 30 minutes; mild redness for a few hours on tightening settings. S$588 per zone.
  • SKINLIFT®: multi-sequential focused ultrasound aimed at the deeper support layers, for mild to moderate jowls, nasolabial folds and a softening jawline. About 30 minutes with no numbing; change builds over a course as collagen renews. Face S$888, Double Chin S$488.
  • Rejuran® PDRN Facial: cosmetic-grade c-PDRN, a salmon-derived polynucleotide that signals fibroblast activity, delivered with Meso Touch transdermal technology. Injected PDRN, a doctor's procedure, reaches deeper at a higher concentration; the facial works gradually across a course. 60 to 90 minutes, S$128 to S$348.
  • Needleless SkinBooster: hydration, tone or skin-quality boosters delivered through an applicator tip without needles. Hydration shows soonest, because it is a physical change rather than remodelling. S$288 per region, first region from S$98.
  • HydraFacial Syndeo: cleanse, extract and hydrate in about 45 minutes. No published study shows hydradermabrasion builds new collagen, so choose it for hydration and clarity. S$288 to S$438; first-timer rate at the counter.

IN Eternity Clinic

Medical collagen-stimulating options

When the aim is deeper remodelling, volume or firmer support, the options are medical. They are performed by Dr Sin Yong (MBBS Singapore, MRCS Edinburgh, MSc Practical Dermatology Cardiff) at IN Eternity Clinic, the clinic SkinRev Lab is affiliated with, after assessment, and priced at consultation by the clinic.

  • Collagen biostimulators: injectable PLLA or PCL that prompt your own collagen over weeks to months, for volume loss, early sagging or thin, crepey skin. Usually a few days of swelling, tenderness or bruising.
  • RF microneedling: fine needles carry radiofrequency heat to a chosen depth in the dermis, sparing most of the surface. For pores, scars, stretch marks and crepey skin around the eyes; one to three days of redness.
  • HIFU: focused ultrasound on the Ultraformer MPT heats points at 1.5, 3.0 and 4.5 mm; new collagen is laid down over two to three months.
  • FSX Laser and injectable skin boosters: a non-ablative thulium and erbium-glass laser for fine lines, pores and texture, and shallow injections, including PDLLA boosters, for skin quality.

Common questions

Your questions,
answered

Does a collagen facial actually work?

It depends what the facial does. Collagen in a mask or serum hydrates the surface but does not reach the dermis to rebuild collagen. Treatments that deliver heat or another signal to the dermis, such as SKINTIGHT or SKINLIFT® at SkinRev Lab, are aimed at prompting your own collagen, and change builds over weeks. Results vary.

What is a skin renewal facial or treatment?

Usually a facial that speeds up surface renewal by exfoliating dead cells, such as the cleanse-and-peel step of HydraFacial Syndeo. It brightens and smooths the surface. Renewal deeper down, meaning new collagen, needs energy-based treatment, microneedling, retinoids or biostimulators.

Can I get a type 1 collagen injection in Singapore?

Bovine collagen, about 95% type I, was the first material approved in the US for injection into lines, in 1981. It lost ground to hyaluronic acid fillers because of allergy risk, which needed two rounds of skin testing, and short-lived results. Collagen-building injectables used today, such as PLLA and PCL biostimulators, prompt your own collagen instead. They are doctor's procedures; SkinRev Lab does not inject.

How long before I see results?

Hydration shows the same day. Collagen-driven change from energy-based treatments and biostimulators appears over weeks to months, and remodelling can continue for up to a year.

Do collagen supplements help skin?

The evidence is weak. A 2025 meta-analysis of 23 randomised trials found no effect on hydration, elasticity or wrinkles in high-quality trials or in trials without industry funding.

How much does a collagen-boosting facial cost at SkinRev Lab?

SKINTIGHT is S$588 per zone, SKINLIFT® Face S$888, the Rejuran® PDRN Facial S$128 to S$348, Needleless SkinBooster S$288 per region and HydraFacial Syndeo S$288 to S$438, all before GST.

Can I combine treatments?

Yes. SKINTIGHT and SKINLIFT® are often paired, with HydraFacial Syndeo or the Rejuran® PDRN Facial for hydration and skin quality. Your Aesthetic Specialist sets the order and spacing at assessment.
