Hair thinning in women tends to look different from men's. Instead of a receding hairline, you may notice a wider parting, a ponytail that feels thinner, more scalp showing over the crown in photos, or handfuls of hair in the shower drain. Women searching for female hair loss treatment in Singapore are often worried and want a clear explanation, and that starts with telling apart the main types of hair loss.

Female pattern hair loss is the most common form. Genetically sensitive follicles over the crown and along the parting gradually shrink, producing finer, shorter hairs, while the front hairline is usually kept. It is graded on the Ludwig scale. Telogen effluvium is different: a shock to the body, such as childbirth, illness, a high fever, crash dieting, surgery or major stress, pushes many hairs into the resting phase at once, and they shed two to four months later. After pregnancy, this shedding often peaks around three to four months after delivery.

Other factors can drive or worsen thinning, including iron deficiency, thyroid disorders, hormonal conditions such as polycystic ovary syndrome, some medicines, tight hairstyles that pull on the roots, and inflammatory scalp conditions. Many women have more than one cause at the same time. That is why a scalp examination and blood tests come before a treatment plan, and why a doctor confirms the diagnosis.

“Postpartum shedding usually settles on its own, while pattern thinning does not, and telling the two apart is the first thing a doctor should do.”

What goes where

The honest ladder:
non-invasive first, medical when it is needed

At SkinRev Lab · non-invasive

Rejuran® Scalp Care — Rejuran® Scalp Care applies PDRN to the scalp without injections to support scalp-skin condition, which some women find helpful alongside medical care. It does not diagnose or treat the cause of thinning, so women with active hair loss should also see the doctor. Read more

At IN Eternity Clinic · Dr Sin Yong

Female Hair Loss Treatment — A doctor-led programme that starts with a consultation, scalp examination and blood tests for iron, thyroid and hormonal causes, then combines prescription treatment where suitable with laser and scalp support. Performed by Dr Sin Yong at IN Eternity Clinic, with medication safety checked for pregnancy and breastfeeding. How it works

H2LT Laser — H2LT is a low-level laser protocol that delivers light energy to follicles to support the growth phase, used for early pattern thinning and persistent shedding. It is given as a course of short sessions by Dr Sin Yong at IN Eternity Clinic and involves no medication. How it works

Regenera Activa — Regenera Activa processes three small 2.5 mm samples from the back of the scalp into micrografts of about 80 microns and injects them into thinning areas, aiming to support existing follicles. It suits selected women with pattern thinning and is performed by Dr Sin Yong at IN Eternity Clinic. How it works

Scalp care at SkinRev can be a gentle addition if your scalp feels dry, oily or irritated, or while you wait for a doctor's review. Please see the doctor at IN Eternity Clinic first if you are losing more hair than usual for more than a few weeks, if your parting is widening, if you have bald patches, an itchy, scaly or painful scalp, or if thinning comes with irregular periods, acne, new facial hair, fatigue or weight change. Women who are pregnant, breastfeeding or planning pregnancy should always discuss this with the doctor, because some prescription treatments are not suitable at these times, while laser and topical approaches may still be options.

What the research says

The evidence,
with sources

A clinical review of female pattern hair loss notes that it is the most common form of hair loss in women and can cause real psychological distress. Diagnosis is usually made from the history and examination, with a scalp biopsy rarely needed, and women with signs of excess androgens should be investigated for ovarian or adrenal causes. The review also points out that treatment is better at stopping progression than regrowing hair, which is why early assessment matters. A review on iron and hair loss found mixed evidence linking iron deficiency to several types of hair loss and no basis for screening everyone, but the authors check iron in their own hair-loss patients and treat deficiency when it is found.

For low-level laser therapy, a systematic review of 11 studies including 236 women found that most reported improved hair counts or density in both sexes, though the authors urged cautious interpretation. In a randomised, evaluator-blinded half-head study of scalp micrografts in men and women with pattern hair loss, treated areas showed higher hair counts than placebo areas at about a year, with some people needing retreatment later. These results are promising, but larger studies are still needed, and individual results vary.

Common questions

Your questions,
answered

What does female hair loss treatment in Singapore usually involve?

It starts with finding the cause. At IN Eternity Clinic, Dr Sin Yong takes a detailed history, examines the scalp, and arranges blood tests such as iron and thyroid checks where appropriate. Treatment is then matched to the diagnosis and may combine prescription treatment, low-level laser and scalp support. Progress is reviewed with photos over several months rather than judged week to week.

Will my hair loss after pregnancy recover on its own?

Shedding a few months after giving birth is very common and usually settles within six to twelve months as hair cycles return to normal. If shedding continues beyond that, if your parting keeps widening, or if you were already thinning before pregnancy, there may be underlying pattern hair loss or a deficiency worth checking. A doctor's review helps separate the two.

Can female hair loss treatment in Singapore be done while breastfeeding?

Some options can, and some cannot. Certain prescription treatments are not used during pregnancy or breastfeeding, while low-level laser and topical scalp care may still be considered. Tell the doctor if you are pregnant, breastfeeding or trying to conceive, so the plan can be adjusted to what is appropriate for you and your baby.

Will hair supplements fix my thinning?

Supplements help mainly when there is a genuine shortfall, such as low iron or vitamin D, confirmed by blood tests. In women without a deficiency, they are unlikely to reverse pattern hair loss, and high doses of some nutrients can cause problems of their own. It is better to test first and then replace only what is low, under medical guidance.

How much does it cost?

Pricing for Rejuran® Scalp Care is available from SkinRev on enquiry. Medical treatment at IN Eternity Clinic, including assessment, blood tests, H2LT laser and Regenera Activa, is priced at consultation once Dr Sin Yong has identified the cause of your hair loss and agreed a plan with you, because the combination differs from woman to woman.

How long before I notice a difference?

Hair grows about a centimetre a month, so change is slow. Many women notice reduced shedding first, often within a couple of months once the cause is addressed, with new growth and better density developing over three to six months or longer. Taking photos in the same light every few months is more reliable than daily mirror checks.
