A wart is a small, rough growth caused by human papillomavirus (HPV) infecting the outer layer of skin. The virus makes skin cells multiply, so the surface thickens and often shows tiny black dots, which are clotted capillaries. Common warts sit on fingers and hands; plantar warts are pressed flat into the soles and can feel like a stone in the shoe; flat (plane) warts appear as clusters of small, smooth bumps on the face, beard area or legs. Many people search for wart removal in Singapore after home treatments have not worked.
Warts spread through skin contact and damp shared floors, such as pool decks and gym showers, and they can spread along shaving lines. They are not dangerous in healthy people, and many go away on their own as the immune system recognises the virus, sometimes after months, sometimes after years. Treatment is worth considering when a wart hurts, spreads, keeps getting knocked, sits on the face, or simply bothers you. Genital warts are a separate matter and should be seen by a doctor.
SkinRev Lab is a non-invasive aesthetic centre and does not treat warts, so please do not book a facial for a wart on the face: steam, extraction and exfoliation can spread flat warts. If you contact SkinRev, we route you to IN Eternity Clinic, where Dr Sin Yong confirms the diagnosis, rules out lookalikes such as corns, seborrhoeic keratoses or skin cancers, and explains the options.

Cryotherapy — Liquid nitrogen freezes the wart and the infected skin around it, causing a blister that lifts the wart off as it heals. It is widely used for hand warts and usually needs repeat visits; it can sting, blister and leave paler or darker patches.
Prescription wart treatment — For some warts, especially on the feet or in children, Dr Sin Yong may recommend a doctor-guided programme of paring and a medicated wart preparation used at home, sometimes combined with freezing. Strong wart preparations are not used on the face.
Radiofrequency/electrosurgical removal — A stubborn single wart, or a thread-like wart on the face, can be removed with an electrosurgical or radiofrequency tip under local anaesthetic, sometimes with gentle scraping of the base. It is quick but carries a risk of scarring, so it is chosen selectively.
Laser removal — Pulsed dye laser targets the small blood vessels that feed a wart, while ablative CO₂ laser vaporises wart tissue layer by layer. Lasers are generally kept for warts that have not responded to simpler measures, and can cause pain, blistering, pigment change or scarring.
Shave or excision removal by Dr Sin Yong — Cutting out a wart is rarely the first choice, because the virus can remain in the surrounding skin and scars on the sole can be painful. It is used when the diagnosis is uncertain and the lesion needs histology.

There is no non-invasive wart option at SkinRev, and for many small warts in healthy children and adults, waiting is a reasonable choice. See a doctor if a wart is painful, spreading, on the face or genitals, bleeding, or not improving after a few months of careful home care; if you have diabetes, poor circulation or a weakened immune system; or if you are not sure it is a wart at all. In older adults, a new 'wart' on sun-exposed skin should be checked, as some skin cancers can look similar. Dr Sin Yong assesses and treats warts at IN Eternity Clinic, and enquiries to SkinRev are passed to IN Eternity Clinic.

What the research says
The evidence,
with sources
The British Association of Dermatologists' guideline notes that many warts clear without treatment and that, for people with a healthy immune system, simply waiting is entirely acceptable; treatment is considered for warts that hurt, limit function, cause distress or sit on the face. A Dutch study of more than 1,000 primary schoolchildren supports this: about half of the children who had warts were clear within a year, and younger children cleared faster.
When treatment is wanted, a Cochrane review of 85 randomised studies found the most consistent evidence for acid-based wart paints, with a modest effect, while cryotherapy performed similarly overall; more aggressive freezing worked better but caused more side effects such as pain and blistering. The BAD guideline rates surgical methods such as curettage, cautery and CO₂ laser on lower-quality evidence, and lists pain, blistering, pigment change and scarring among laser side effects. These are reasons to match the method to the wart and its site.

Common questions
Your questions,
answered
What does wart removal in Singapore usually involve?
It starts with a doctor confirming the diagnosis. Common options are freezing with liquid nitrogen, a doctor-guided home treatment with regular paring, and, for stubborn warts, electrosurgical or laser removal. At IN Eternity Clinic, Dr Sin Yong chooses based on the wart's type, size and site, your skin type and how much downtime you can accept. Several visits are often needed.
What is the cost of wart removal in Singapore?
Pricing is given at consultation at IN Eternity Clinic, because it depends on how many warts there are, where they are, which method suits them and how many visits are likely. Facial or plantar warts may be approached differently from a single hand wart. SkinRev does not treat warts, so there is no SkinRev price for wart removal.
Do warts go away on their own?
Often, yes. Many warts fade as the immune system recognises the virus, particularly in children, where about half clear within a year. In adults, warts can last longer. Waiting is reasonable if a wart is not painful or spreading. Meanwhile, cover it in shared showers and pool areas, avoid picking or shaving over it, and keep your own towel.
Is cryotherapy painful, and how many sessions are needed?
Freezing stings during treatment and for a short while after, and a blister may form over the next day or two. Most warts need more than one treatment, usually spaced two to three weeks apart, and plantar warts on thick skin tend to need more. Dr Sin Yong will explain what to expect for your wart at consultation, and individual results vary.
Can warts on the face be removed?
Yes, but with extra care. Flat warts on the face and beard area are thin and numerous, so aggressive freezing or burning risks marks. Options are chosen to limit scarring and pigment change, which matters on Asian skin. Avoid shaving over flat warts, as this spreads them, and do not use strong wart paints made for hands and feet on your face.
Why does my plantar wart keep coming back?
Plantar warts sit in thick, pressure-bearing skin, so treatment struggles to reach every infected cell, and the virus can persist in nearby skin. Shared wet floors also make reinfection easy. Regular paring of hard skin, consistent treatment and covering the wart all help. If it is very painful or not responding, a doctor can reassess it and confirm that it is not a corn.
