Quick answer

  • Waxing gives a clean, smooth result for a few weeks. Laser aims for long-term reduction. The right choice depends on the area, your skin and how often you want to come back.
  • Non-invasive at SkinRev Lab (CityLink Mall): Waxing.
  • Medical, performed by Dr Sin Yong at IN Eternity Clinic (Pacific Plaza, Orchard): Laser Hair Removal.
  • Assessment first; individual results vary. Medical pricing is given at consultation.

Unwanted hair can mean a shadow on the upper lip, regrowth on the underarms within days of shaving, bumps and ingrown hairs along the bikini line, or thick hair on the chest, back or legs. Choosing hair removal in Singapore is partly about the humid weather: shaving rash, sweat and frequent regrowth push many people to look for something that lasts longer than a razor. This page explains the two routes available, waxing at SkinRev and laser by the doctor at IN Eternity Clinic, and how to decide between them.

Every hair grows from a follicle with a growth phase, a short transition phase and a resting phase, and at any one time only a portion of the hairs in an area are actively growing. Waxing pulls hairs out from the root, so the skin stays smooth for roughly three to six weeks until new hairs surface, but the follicle itself is unchanged. Laser works differently. Light is absorbed by the melanin in the hair shaft and bulb, turning into heat that damages the follicle so it produces finer, lighter hair or stops producing hair.

Because laser depends on pigment, it works most predictably on dark hair and has limited effect on white, grey, red or very fair hair. Skin tone matters too, since melanin in the skin competes for the light, which is why wavelength and settings need to match your skin type. Hormonally driven hair, such as on the chin or jaw in some women, may also keep returning and need maintenance.

“Laser gives long-term reduction for most people with dark hair, but we will not tell you that every follicle will be gone for good.”

Waxing
Removes the hair from the root; smooth for about 3 to 6 weeks; follicle unchanged
Laser target
Melanin in the hair shaft and bulb, through selective photothermolysis
Wavelengths used
755 nm Alexandrite for lighter skin and finer dark hair; 1064 nm Nd:YAG for deeper skin tones
Device at IN Eternity Clinic
Lutronic Clarity II, a dual-wavelength long-pulsed platform with skin cooling
Hair that responds poorly
White, grey, red and very fair hair, which lack enough melanin to absorb the light
Why sessions are spaced
Laser affects mainly hairs in the active growth phase, so treatments are spaced weeks apart to catch new cycles

What goes where

The honest ladder:
non-invasive first, medical when it is needed

At SkinRev Lab · non-invasive

Waxing — Waxing at SkinRev removes hair from the root across everyday areas, leaving skin smooth for several weeks, with four price bands depending on the area. It does not reduce hair growth over time, and Brazilian or Boyzilian hair removal is handled with laser at IN Eternity Clinic instead. Read more

Laser Hair Removal — Laser hair removal on the Lutronic Clarity II uses 755 nm Alexandrite or 1064 nm Nd:YAG light, chosen by skin type, with cooling on every pass. It covers areas including the face, underarms, bikini, Brazilian, Boyzilian and body, and is performed by Dr Sin Yong at IN Eternity Clinic. How it works

Enquiries to SkinRev Lab about medical treatments are passed to IN Eternity Clinic, where Dr Sin Yong performs them.

Waxing at SkinRev suits you if you want smooth skin for an event or holiday, have light, grey or red hair that laser cannot target well, or prefer not to commit to a course. Laser at IN Eternity Clinic suits people with dark hair who are tired of frequent regrowth, ingrown hairs or shaving rash, and anyone wanting Brazilian or Boyzilian hair removal. See the doctor first if you have noticed new, coarse hair on the face, chest or tummy as a woman, irregular periods, acne or scalp thinning, since these can point to a hormonal cause such as polycystic ovary syndrome that should be checked. A doctor should also assess any moles, active rashes or recent heavy tanning in the area to be treated.

What the research says

The evidence,
with sources

A comprehensive review of laser hair removal concluded that long-pulsed Alexandrite (755 nm), diode, long-pulsed Nd:YAG (1064 nm) and intense pulsed light devices are all supported for long-term hair reduction, and that the longer Nd:YAG wavelength is the safer choice for pigmented skin. A separate review focusing on Fitzpatrick skin types IV to VI found that hair reduction in darker skin is achievable when longer wavelengths and appropriate energy settings are used, with side effects such as pigment change and blistering mostly linked to unsuitable settings.

The highest level of evidence is more cautious. A Cochrane systematic review of randomised studies found that Alexandrite and diode lasers produced a clear short-term reduction in hair counts up to six months after treatment, but that the included studies were of limited quality and long-term removal was not well documented. That is why we describe laser as long-term reduction rather than complete removal, and why some people need occasional maintenance. Pain, redness, swelling and pigment change were reported only infrequently.

Common questions

Your questions,
answered

Which hair removal in Singapore lasts longest?

Of the common methods, laser gives the longest-lasting effect for people with dark hair, because it damages the follicle rather than just removing the hair. Waxing lasts several weeks per session, and shaving only a few days. Laser is more accurately described as long-term reduction rather than complete removal: many follicles stop producing hair, others grow back finer and lighter, and some areas need occasional maintenance.

Can I get a Brazilian or Boyzilian wax at SkinRev?

For Brazilian and Boyzilian hair removal we direct you to laser hair removal at IN Eternity Clinic rather than waxing. Laser reduces hair over a course of sessions, which also helps with the ingrown hairs and bumps that often come with repeated removal in the intimate area. The treatment is performed by Dr Sin Yong, and you can enquire through SkinRev first.

Is laser hair removal in Singapore safe for darker skin?

It can be, provided the wavelength and settings match your skin. The 1064 nm Nd:YAG wavelength passes the skin's own pigment more safely and is generally preferred for deeper skin tones, while 755 nm Alexandrite suits lighter skin. The Clarity II at IN Eternity Clinic has both, and the doctor selects the wavelength after assessing your skin type and recent sun exposure.

Does it hurt?

Waxing stings briefly as the hair is pulled, more on sensitive areas such as the upper lip and underarms. Laser is often described as a quick snap against the skin, with cooling applied on each pass to reduce discomfort, and numbing cream can be used for sensitive areas on request. Redness and small bumps around the follicles usually settle within hours.

How much does hair removal cost?

Waxing at SkinRev comes in four price bands, GST-inclusive, from S$18, depending on the area. Laser hair removal at IN Eternity Clinic is priced at consultation, because the cost depends on the area, its size and the number of sessions Dr Sin Yong recommends for your hair and skin type.

How should I prepare for waxing or laser?

For waxing, let hair grow to a few millimetres so the wax can grip, and avoid exfoliating acids and strong active skincare on the area for a few days beforehand. For laser, shave the area a day before rather than waxing or plucking, since the root needs to be present. Avoid tanning and self-tan before laser, and mention any medicines, as some increase light sensitivity.
