Acne scar treatment in Singapore what drives the cost, and how to compare quotes fairly

Two people can pay very different amounts to treat acne scars, because their scars are different. Here is what decides the cost, how many sessions scars tend to need, what non-medical treatment can and cannot do for pitted scars, and what to ask before you pay.

Quick answer

  • Acne scar treatment in Singapore is priced by the scars, not by the machine: their type (rolling, boxcar or ice pick), depth and number, how many sessions they need, and whether several methods are combined decide the cost. Most treatment that changes the structure of pitted scars is medical and is priced after a doctor has examined them.
  • Expect a course rather than a single visit. In the research, combination plans such as subcision with fractional CO2 laser generally do better than single treatments; sessions are spaced weeks apart, and collagen keeps remodelling for months. Downtime, from a few days to about two weeks, is part of the real cost.
  • At IN Eternity Clinic, Pacific Plaza, Dr Sin Yong's 4D Scar Reconstruction, S3 Resurfacing (fractional CO2) and RF microneedling are priced at consultation, because the plan is built scar by scar. SkinRev Lab does not perform these procedures.
  • At SkinRev Lab, SKINTIGHT microplasma is S$588 per zone (the face is one zone) for surface texture and shallow scarring, SKINLDM is S$288 (first visit S$68) to calm active breakouts, and HydraFacial Syndeo is S$288 to S$438, all before GST. None of them releases tethered scars or lifts deep pits.

Marks or scars? Know what you are paying to treat

Flat red or brown marks after acne are not scars. They are colour, not structure, and usually fade over months with sun protection and time; if the skin is level when you run a finger over it, it is a mark. Paying for scar treatment when you have marks is one of the easiest ways to overspend.

Atrophic (pitted) acne scars are different: collagen was lost during healing, so the skin sits lower. Dermatologists group them into three types, ice pick, boxcar and rolling, because each responds to a different procedure, and most faces have a mix. Raised scars and keloids are treated differently again.

Scarring is common. In a study of 1,972 people seeing dermatologists for acne, 43% already had scars, most of them with only mild or moderate acne at the time. The authors noted that no treatment yet completely resolves acne scars, so preventing them remains a primary strategy.

Cost drivers

What drives acne scar treatment cost in Singapore

Of these, the scar map and the number of sessions matter most. That is why two quotes for 'acne scar treatment' can differ widely and both be reasonable, or both be wrong for your scars.

  • Scar type: rolling, boxcar and ice pick scars need different methods, and most faces have more than one type.
  • Depth and severity: deeper, more widespread scarring needs more steps and more sessions.
  • Number and area: a few scars on one cheek cost differently from scarring across both cheeks and the temples.
  • Number of sessions: the biggest multiplier, and impossible to know before an examination.
  • Combination: subcision, TCA CROSS, laser and filler each add cost, but combined plans tend to work better.
  • Who treats it and with what: doctor-performed procedures, the device used, and consumables such as filler.
  • Your skin: darker or pigment-prone skin may need preparation, gentler settings and more sessions to keep PIH risk down.
  • Active acne: breakouts need to be controlled first, which may mean acne treatment before any scar work.
  • Downtime and aftercare: leave days, sunscreen and follow-up visits are part of the total.

Scar type and grade

Scar type and grade decide the plan

Severity matters as well. The Goodman and Baron system grades acne scarring from 1, flat marks, to 4, severe scarring that cannot easily be disguised at social distance, and links each grade to a level of treatment. Higher grades usually mean more methods and more sessions.

These are typical patterns from published studies, not a plan for your face. A doctor confirms the types under angled light before quoting.

Scar typeUsually needsTypical courseUsual downtime

Sessions

Why combination plans cost more, and often work better

A systematic review of 89 studies concluded that fractional lasers and radiofrequency improve most types of atrophic acne scar, that other methods are added depending on the type, severity and number of scars, and that combination therapy typically gives better outcomes than single treatments, while noting a lack of high-quality data.

A 2026 network meta-analysis of 56 randomised trials with 1,488 patients reached a similar conclusion for moderate to severe scars: combinations generally outperformed single treatments, and fractional CO2 laser with subcision was among the most consistently beneficial. The authors advised choosing by scar type, skin type, downtime, pain, side-effect risk and patient preference.

In practice you pay for more than one technique, in sequence: tethered scars are usually released before resurfacing, and sessions are spaced weeks apart so the skin can heal. Collagen keeps remodelling for months after each session, so compare the price of the whole course, not one visit.

Downtime

Downtime: the cost that is not on the quote

Time off work, sunscreen and recommended aftercare, and the occasional extra review are part of the real price. In Asian skin, temporary darkening (post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, PIH) is the main setback; it usually fades but can add weeks, which is why settings are cautious and sun protection afterwards is strict.

An international consensus of 24 dermatologists and plastic surgeons considered energy-based devices a first-line treatment for many atrophic scar types and included specific recommendations for skin of colour. Choosing a gentler option can mean more sessions, so a slightly longer course is sometimes the price of a lower pigment risk.

TreatmentUsual recovery
SubcisionBruising and swelling, usually settling within one to two weeks
TCA CROSSSmall dark crusts for about a week; pinkness for a few weeks
Fractional CO2 laserAbout five to seven days of swelling and fine crusts; pinkness that fades over weeks
RF microneedlingRedness and mild swelling for one to three days
4D Scar Reconstruction sessionAbout one to two weeks of social downtime
SKINTIGHT, scar settingPinpoint scabbing for a few days
SKINTIGHT, tightening settingMild redness for a few hours

Priced at consultation

Why doctor-led scar treatment is priced at consultation

Doctor-led scar treatment is not a menu item. Dr Sin Yong's 4D Scar Reconstruction at IN Eternity Clinic treats each scar by what is wrong with it: subcision for tethered bands, TCA CROSS for narrow, deep scars, fractional CO2 laser with the DEKA Tetra Pro S3 approach for surfaces and edges, and, where volume has been lost, an injectable to support the scar floor. Not everyone needs all four, so a fixed price list would not be accurate.

At consultation he examines the scars under different lighting angles, maps them by type, and checks your skin type, acne control and medical history. You should leave knowing which method each area needs, the order, how many sessions he expects, the downtime and what change is realistic; pricing is given then, by the clinic.

The same applies to S3 Resurfacing or RF microneedling on their own: the area, the number and type of scars, and whether other steps are combined set the cost.

SkinRev Lab prices

SkinRev Lab prices, and what they can and cannot do for pitted scars

SKINTIGHT is the SkinRev Lab treatment with a dedicated scar setting. It uses fractional microplasma, a technology class studied in a 60-patient split-face trial in China, where three sessions two months apart improved atrophic acne scars more than microneedle radiofrequency, with more pain and longer-lasting redness. That was a small pilot study, and SKINTIGHT works on the surface and upper dermis; for deep, pitted scars a doctor's treatment usually does more.

Prices are per session and before GST, as shown on the SkinRev Lab price list. Scar work with SKINTIGHT usually needs a course at higher settings, which your Aesthetic Specialist estimates at assessment rather than selling a fixed package. If your scars are deep or tethered, the team will say so and pass your enquiry to IN Eternity Clinic.

Before you pay

How to compare acne scar removal prices fairly

Be cautious of promises to remove scars in one session, packages sold before anyone has examined your skin, and anyone willing to treat scars over active acne. Scars improve rather than disappear, and a realistic provider will tell you so.

  • Is the price per session or for a course, and how many sessions are expected?
  • What does one session cover: the full face, both cheeks, or a set number of scars?
  • Which methods are included, for example subcision, TCA CROSS, laser or filler, and how much filler?
  • Are the consultation, numbing, aftercare products and review visits included?
  • Who performs each step, and is it a doctor?
  • Which device is used, and what settings are planned for your skin type?
  • What downtime should you plan for, and what happens if your skin darkens?
  • Is GST included, and are the package validity and refund terms in writing?

Prevention

The cheapest scar is the one that never forms

Every deep, inflamed spot is a potential scar. In the same study of 1,972 people, the time between acne starting and the first effective treatment was a key risk factor that can be changed, alongside acne severity, relapsing acne and male sex. Treating active acne early costs less than treating scars later.

Do not pick or squeeze deep spots, and see a doctor about painful lumps rather than waiting them out. Use sunscreen daily, because sun darkens the marks around scars and makes them look more obvious. No cream lifts a pitted scar, so be wary of spending on scar creams for that purpose.

Common questions

Your questions,
answered

How much does acne scar treatment cost in Singapore?

It depends on the scar types, their depth and number, the area, how many sessions are needed and which methods are combined. At IN Eternity Clinic, doctor-led scar treatment, including 4D Scar Reconstruction, is priced at consultation. At SkinRev Lab, SKINTIGHT for surface texture is S$588 per zone before GST.

Why is there no fixed price for acne scar removal?

Because the plan depends on your scars. Rolling, boxcar and ice pick scars need different methods, most faces have a mix, and the number of sessions varies. A price given before anyone has examined your skin is a price for a treatment, not for your scars.

How many sessions do acne scars need?

Most people with moderate scarring need several sessions spaced weeks apart, often over six months to a year, and collagen keeps remodelling for months after each. Ice pick scars often need three to six TCA CROSS sessions; tethered rolling scars usually need one to three subcision sessions, then laser or RF.

Which is better value for acne scars: laser or subcision?

It depends on the scar. Subcision is the key step for tethered rolling scars, while fractional laser suits boxcar scars and texture. Research suggests that combining them tends to do better than either alone, so value comes from matching the methods to your scars.

Can a facial remove acne scars?

No. Facials can clear congestion, calm active breakouts and help skin look smoother, but they cannot release tethered scars or lift pits. At SkinRev Lab, SKINTIGHT microplasma can soften surface texture and shallow scarring; deeper scars need a doctor.

Does SKINTIGHT work on acne scars?

It can soften surface texture and shallow scarring over a course, using a scar setting that leaves pinpoint scabbing for a few days. Small studies of fractional microplasma report improvement in atrophic scars, but it does not cut tethering bands or rebuild deep pits. It is S$588 per zone before GST.

Should I treat active acne before acne scars?

Yes. Scars cannot be rebuilt while new ones are forming, so active acne is controlled first. If you have recently taken isotretinoin, tell your doctor; the timing of procedures is reviewed individually.

Are cheaper acne scar packages worth it?

Only if the treatment matches your scars. A low per-session price for a method that cannot reach tethered or deep scars is not a saving. Compare the whole course, what each session covers, who performs it and what is included.

Are acne scar treatment results permanent?

Improvement from collagen remodelling is long-lasting, but skin keeps ageing, and rolling scars can look deeper as the face loses volume. Scars improve rather than disappear, and results vary between people.
