Post-pregnancy slimming in Singapore: when to start, and matching treatment to what is left
Post-pregnancy slimming is easiest to plan after your postnatal check and the first months of recovery, once you know what remains: fat, loose skin or weak tummy muscles. At SkinRev Lab, CityLink Mall, Aesthetic Therapists offer SKINSHAPE, SKINTIGHT and SKINSCULPT from about three months after birth, and Dr Sin Yong performs doctor-led options, priced at consultation.

Quick answer
- Give your body the first months. HealthHub stages exercise from gentle work in the first six weeks to higher impact from about four months, and suggests aiming for 1 to 2 kg of weight loss a month; losing weight too fast may reduce milk supply.
- Check for separated tummy muscles. A gap is common and often closes, but in one study it was still present in about a third of mothers at 12 months. No device closes a significant gap.
- Then treat what is genuinely left: pinchable fat with SKINSHAPE or SKINUSHAPE, loose skin with SKINTIGHT, tone with SKINSCULPT. Most body treatments wait until at least three months after birth, with your doctor's go-ahead if breastfeeding.
- For laxity with fat, Dr Sin Yong performs 4K Body Lift and Onda Pro at SkinRev Lab and IN Eternity Clinic, priced at consultation. A large apron of skin or a wide muscle gap is surgical territory.

Timing
A realistic timeline after birth
Your own doctor's advice comes first, especially after a caesarean or a complicated birth. HealthHub's guidance stages the return to exercise: walking, pelvic floor work, gentle tummy exercises and pelvic tilts in the first six weeks; swimming, Pilates, yoga and low-impact aerobics from about six weeks; and jogging and higher-impact exercise from about four months. After a caesarean, abdominal curl-ups are avoided at first.
For weight, HealthHub suggests aiming for 1 to 2 kg a month, and warns that losing weight too quickly may reduce milk production. Skin also keeps retracting through the first year, so many women find that waiting longer means needing less.
Check first
Separated tummy muscles: check before tummy toning
During pregnancy the two vertical tummy muscles separate along the midline. The NHS says the gap usually returns to normal by about eight weeks, and advises seeing a GP if it is still obvious then. In a study of 300 first-time mothers, a gap of two finger-breadths or more was found in 60% at six weeks and in about a third at 12 months.
A persistent gap gives a rounded lower tummy that does not respond to sit-ups, and some exercises can make it worse. It needs proper assessment, often with a women's health physiotherapist. Body treatments can support tone around it, but none closes a significant gap.
Matching treatment
Fat, loose skin or muscle: what helps
Most postpartum tummies are a mix. The plan treats each layer with the tool that works on it.
| What is left | What it looks like | At SkinRev Lab (needle-free) | Doctor-led, by Dr Sin Yong |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pinchable fat | A soft roll that stays after weight has settled | SKINSHAPE microwave contouring or SKINUSHAPE ultrasound contouring | Onda Pro; fat freezing |
| Loose skin | Crepey skin below the belly button, a small overhang when sitting | SKINTIGHT | 4K Body Lift (insulated RF microneedling) |
| Weak tone | A soft tummy with a small or no muscle gap | SKINSCULPT muscle stimulation | Assessment if a gap or hernia is suspected |
| Wide muscle gap or apron of skin | A midline ridge or dome when straining; skin that hangs in a fold | Not treatable with devices | Referral for a surgical opinion |
Who should wait
Who this is not suitable for
Body treatments are postponed, or a different route suggested, in these situations.
- Less than about three months after birth, or before your postnatal check.
- Breastfeeding without your doctor's go-ahead.
- A caesarean wound or tear that has not fully healed.
- Pregnant again, or trying to conceive soon.
- A ridge or dome along the midline, a bulge at the belly button, or pain: see a doctor or physiotherapist first.
- A large apron of loose skin: no device removes it; a surgical opinion is the honest next step.
- Leaking urine or pelvic heaviness: pelvic floor care comes first.

Common questions
Your questions,
answered
When can I start slimming treatment after giving birth?
Most non-invasive body treatments wait until at least three months after birth and your postnatal check, with your doctor's go-ahead if you are breastfeeding.
Can I do postpartum slimming while breastfeeding?
Check with your doctor first. Some body treatments are not appropriate while breastfeeding, and losing weight too fast may reduce milk supply.
Will my tummy go back to normal after pregnancy?
Much recovers within the first year. Separated muscles often close, but in one study a gap remained in about a third of mothers at 12 months, and some skin laxity can persist.
Can a device fix diastasis recti?
No device closes a significant muscle gap. It needs assessment and exercise guidance, often from a women's health physiotherapist, and sometimes a surgical opinion.
Do postnatal slimming massages work?
Massage can ease puffiness and feel good, but it does not remove fat or tighten loose skin.
What treatment helps loose skin after pregnancy?
SKINTIGHT at SkinRev Lab for mild laxity, or 4K Body Lift and Onda Pro by Dr Sin Yong where laxity and fat sit together. A hanging apron of skin needs a surgical opinion.
How much does post-pregnancy slimming cost in Singapore?
It depends on the areas, the layers being treated and the number of sessions. Needle-free sessions at SkinRev Lab are on the price list; doctor-led options are priced at consultation.
Does SkinRev Lab offer tummy tuck or liposuction?
No. SkinRev Lab does not perform surgery, and will tell you if a surgical opinion fits better.
