Eye bag removal in Singapore fat, fluid, loose skin or a hollow, and what each needs

Most people looking into eye bag removal in Singapore want to know one thing: can it be done without surgery? The honest answer depends on what the bag is made of. Here is how to tell, what each option can and cannot do, and why prices vary so widely.

Quick answer

  • Eye bag removal in Singapore means different things for different bags: a true fat bulge is only removed by lower eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty), while fluid puffiness, loose lower-lid skin and the hollow beneath a bag can be improved without surgery.
  • An MRI study found that the fat cushioning the eye expands with age and is the main reason lower lids bulge. That is why creams, facials and devices can firm the skin or soften the shadow around a bag, but cannot take the fat away.
  • Without surgery, the usual tools are home measures for fluid, tightening for crepey lower-lid skin, and tear trough filler for the groove under a mild bulge. At SkinRev Lab, SKINTIGHT has an upper and lower eye zone at S$588 per session before GST, and HydraFacial Perk Eye (priced at the counter) can calm the look of puffiness for a while.
  • Tear trough filler, RF microneedling and pigment lasers are performed by Dr Sin Yong at IN Eternity Clinic and priced at consultation. Eyelid surgery is done by plastic or oculoplastic surgeons, not at SkinRev Lab or IN Eternity Clinic, and Dr Sin Yong will refer you if surgery suits you better.

Four causes

What an eye bag is actually made of

An eye bag is the puffy bulge under the lower lid. It looks like one thing in the mirror, but it usually comes from one or more of four causes: fluid that collects overnight, fat from around the eye pushing forward, thin lower-lid skin that has lost its spring, and a hollow groove beneath the bag, called the tear trough, which makes the bulge above it look bigger.

Fat is the most common cause of a bag that stays all day in adults. The eye sits in a cushion of fat held back by a thin membrane, and an MRI study of 40 adults found that the soft tissue below the eye increased with age, with fat expansion the largest contributor, rather than the eyeball sinking. Genetics also matters, so some people have prominent bags from their twenties.

Fluid puffiness behaves differently. It is worse on waking and after salty food, alcohol, crying or allergies, and settles through the day. Many people have a mix, for example a small fat bulge with a groove beneath it and puffiness on top in the morning.

Self-check

How to tell your eye bag type at home

A few simple checks in front of a mirror, in daylight, will not replace an examination, but they help you ask the right questions and avoid paying for a treatment that cannot reach the problem.

  • Morning test: if the bag is clearly worse on waking and better by afternoon, fluid is the main driver.
  • Look-up test: tilt your head down and look up at the mirror. A bag that bulges more is usually fat.
  • Light test: face a window or lamp directly. If the darkness under the bag fades, much of it is shadow from a hollow.
  • Skin test: gently pinch the lower-lid skin. Fine crinkling and slow recoil point to loose, thin skin.
  • Stretch test: if dark colour stays when the skin is gently stretched, pigment is part of the picture, which is a dark circle issue rather than a bag.
  • Two-week test: try a cool compress, less salt in the evening and an extra pillow for two weeks. If nothing changes, the bag is probably fat or loose skin rather than fluid.

Without surgery

Eye bag removal without surgery: what is realistic

No cream, facial, device or injection removes the fat inside a true eye bag. What non-surgical treatment can do is reduce fluid puffiness, firm the thin skin over a small bulge, and smooth the step between the bag and the cheek so the bulge looks less obvious.

There is some evidence for energy treatments on mild bags. In a small randomised split-face trial in 15 Chinese adults with baggy lower eyelids, three monthly sessions of microneedle fractional radiofrequency on one side and a 1,565 nm fractional laser on the other both reduced measures of lid bulging and improved the skin, with most patients reporting satisfaction. It was a small study, and the authors noted these treatments suited people with lax skin together with a groove and mild fat prolapse.

So the realistic aim without surgery is a fresher, smoother lower lid, not a flat one. If your bag is large and present all day, a non-surgical course may soften the edges but is unlikely to give you the change you are hoping for, and it is fair to hear that before you spend.

At SkinRev Lab

Non-invasive eye care at SkinRev Lab

SkinRev Lab, at #B1-28 CityLink Mall with an underground link to City Hall and Esplanade MRT, offers gentle, non-invasive eye-area care. None of it removes fat; each option suits a different part of the problem.

SKINTIGHT uses Alma PrimeX microplasma to resurface the skin surface and conduct heat into the dermis, prompting collagen renewal, with settings adjusted for the delicate eye area. The upper and lower eye zone is S$588 per session before GST, takes about 30 minutes, and tightening settings usually leave mild redness for a few hours. It suits crepey lids and lax lower-lid skin; it is not a substitute for blepharoplasty.

HydraFacial Perk Eye is a 15-minute roller-flex treatment worked lightly around the orbital bone with a soothing antioxidant serum, aimed at the look of puffiness and fine lines. It can be booked alone or added to any HydraFacial tier and is priced at the counter. For dark circles linked to thin, dry skin, the Needleless SkinBooster can deliver hydrating and brightening boosters to the under-eye region at S$288 per region before GST (first region from S$98); results are subtle.

With a doctor

Tear trough filler, RF microneedling and lasers at IN Eternity Clinic

When the problem is a hollow, deeper skin laxity or pigment, the next step is a doctor. At IN Eternity Clinic, 9 Scotts Road, #12-01 Pacific Plaza, beside Orchard MRT, Dr Sin Yong examines whether the bag is fat, fluid, loose skin or a hollow before suggesting anything. Medical treatments there are priced at consultation.

Tear trough filler places a small amount of soft hyaluronic acid deep along the groove under the bag, so the step between bulge and cheek looks smoother. A 2024 meta-analysis of 31 reports with 2,556 people found high satisfaction, with swelling and bruising each in about one in five, lumps in about one in 20 and a bluish tint in under one in 100. A separate review of delayed problems found swelling was the most common, appearing on average more than a year after injection, mostly with hyaluronic acid. Filler is the wrong choice for puffy, fluid-prone eyes.

RF microneedling uses shallow settings around the eye to firm crepey lower-lid skin over a mild bulge, with redness and mild swelling for one to three days. For brown, pigment-type circles, Laser Toning or Pico Laser may be used over a course. None of these removes eye bag fat.

These are general patterns, not a plan. Many people need two approaches, for example tightening the skin and softening a groove, and the order matters. Individual results vary.

Surgery

Lower eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty), explained

Lower blepharoplasty is the operation that actually removes or repositions eye bag fat. The surgeon works either through a cut just below the lashes or from inside the lower lid, then removes or moves fat into the groove below, and sometimes trims a little skin. It is performed by plastic surgeons or oculoplastic (eyelid) surgeons. SkinRev Lab and IN Eternity Clinic do not perform eyelid surgery.

According to the NHS, eyelid surgery takes around 45 minutes to two and a half hours, can be done under local or general anaesthetic, and most people go home the same day. Most take about two weeks off work, bruising and redness may take several weeks to fade, and scars can feel tight for a few months before fading.

Like any surgery it carries risks. The NHS lists uneven-looking eyes, noticeable scarring and changes in eyelid sensation as occasional, and a lower lid turning outwards (ectropion), bleeding into the eye socket and eye muscle injury as rare. A 2025 systematic review of 36 studies described lower blepharoplasty as having a low complication profile overall, with most functional and cosmetic problems resolving with conservative care or revision surgery. Choose a surgeon who will examine your lids, explain the technique and talk you through these risks.

Price

Eye bag removal price in Singapore: why ranges vary

Eye bag removal prices in Singapore, whether you search for eye bag or eyebag removal, range widely because the phrase covers very different things: a single eye-area session, a filler treatment priced by the amount used, a course of energy treatments, or an operation with surgeon, anaesthetist and facility fees. Comparing a session price with a surgical quote is not a like-for-like comparison.

At SkinRev Lab, prices for non-medical treatments are published: SKINTIGHT's eye zone is S$588 per session and the Needleless SkinBooster is S$288 per region (first region from S$98), both before GST, while HydraFacial Perk Eye is priced at the counter. Medical treatments at IN Eternity Clinic, such as tear trough filler and RF microneedling, are priced at consultation once Dr Sin Yong has worked out what your bags are made of.

  • Ask which cause the treatment is aimed at: fluid, fat, skin or hollow.
  • Ask how many sessions are expected, and the cost of the whole course rather than one visit.
  • For filler, ask how much product is likely and what happens if it needs dissolving.
  • For surgery, ask what the quote includes: surgeon, anaesthetist, facility, follow-up and revisions.
  • Ask who performs the treatment and how progress will be judged, such as photos in the same lighting.

Red flags

Puffy eyes that need a doctor, not a treatment

Most eye bags are harmless and cosmetic. Some swelling is a sign of allergy, infection, thyroid eye disease or kidney problems, and needs a GP or doctor before any aesthetic treatment. In Singapore, allergic rhinitis and eczema are common causes of itchy, rubbed eyes, which worsen both puffiness and darkening.

  • Swelling that came on suddenly, or affects one eye only.
  • Redness, pain, itching or a rash around the eyes.
  • Changes in vision, a gritty feeling or bulging of the eyes.
  • Puffiness together with swollen ankles, hands or face elsewhere.
  • Swelling that appeared months after under-eye filler.

Common questions

Your questions,
answered

Can eye bags be removed without surgery?

Not if the bag is made of fat. Only lower eyelid surgery removes or repositions that fat. Without surgery, fluid puffiness can be reduced, crepey lower-lid skin can be tightened and the hollow under a bag can be softened with filler, which can make a mild bag look smaller. An assessment tells you which you have.

How much is eye bag removal in Singapore?

It depends on the method. At SkinRev Lab, SKINTIGHT's eye zone is S$588 per session before GST and HydraFacial Perk Eye is priced at the counter. Tear trough filler and RF microneedling at IN Eternity Clinic are priced at consultation. Surgical quotes from eyelid surgeons usually include surgeon, anaesthetist and facility fees, so ask what is included.

What is the difference between eye bag treatment and eye bag removal?

Eye bag treatment usually means improving how a bag looks, by calming puffiness, firming the skin or softening the groove beneath it. Eye bag removal, strictly, means taking out or repositioning the fat, which is done surgically by an eyelid or plastic surgeon.

Is tear trough filler good for eye bags?

It suits some people. Filler works better when the main problem is a hollow groove under a small bulge and the skin is not very thin. In people prone to fluid puffiness, filler can make swelling worse, sometimes many months later. It does not remove fat, and a doctor should check your type first.

How long is recovery after eye bag surgery?

According to the NHS, most people take about two weeks off work after eyelid surgery, and bruising and redness can take several weeks to fade. Scars may feel tight for a few months. Your surgeon will give specific advice on driving, exercise and wound care.

Why are my eye bags worse in the morning?

Fluid collects around the eyes while you lie flat, especially after salty food, alcohol or a late night, and drains through the day. Sleeping with an extra pillow, cutting back on evening salt and drinks, and treating allergies often help. If the bag does not change through the day, it is more likely fat.

Can young people get eye bags?

Yes. Prominent fat pads under the eyes often run in families and can show from the twenties. In younger people the skin is usually firm, so the bag is mostly fat or fluid rather than loose skin, which affects which option makes sense.

Does SkinRev Lab do eye bag removal?

No. SkinRev Lab offers non-invasive eye-area care such as SKINTIGHT's eye zone and HydraFacial Perk Eye, which can improve skin and puffiness but do not remove fat. Doctor treatments are performed by Dr Sin Yong at IN Eternity Clinic, and eyelid surgery is done by plastic or oculoplastic surgeons.
