A lower face looks wide for one of three main reasons: a strong chewing muscle, fullness under the jaw, or skin that has started to loosen. Each needs a different approach, and some need a doctor. Here is how to tell them apart and what each option at SkinRev Lab costs.

Three reasons a face looks wide, and how to check yours
A V-shape face tapers from the cheekbones to a defined chin. When the lower third looks as broad as the upper face, the outline reads as square or round instead. Most people searching for face slimming or jawline contouring have one main cause, often with a little of another.
Three simple checks in front of a mirror give a useful first answer:
- Muscle: put your fingertips at the back corner of your jaw and clench. If a firm bulge pushes outwards, the masseter is adding width. It enlarges with clenching, grinding and chewing habits, and a prominent masseter is common in East Asian faces.
- Fat: look down and gently pinch under the chin and along the jowl. A soft roll that you can pinch is fat. Slim people can still have it, because genetics decides much of what collects here.
- Loose skin: look at your jawline in profile and lift the skin gently towards the ear. If the line sharpens noticeably, laxity is blurring it. This usually starts in the late thirties or forties, as collagen declines.
- If the width stays the same whether you clench or relax and feels hard and bony, the jaw angle itself is the likely reason, and only surgery changes bone.

SKINLIFT: jawline tightening and lift without needles
SKINLIFT is a needle-free lifting session using N Pulse-Ultrasound, a multi-sequential focused ultrasound aimed at the deeper support layers beneath the skin. It is meant for the part of a wide-looking face that comes from tissue settling downwards: early jowls, a softening jawline and fullness under the chin with some looseness.
Each session takes about 30 minutes with no numbing. Most clients go straight back to work; mild, short-lived redness can occur. Change builds gradually over a course planned at your assessment, as collagen remodels over the following weeks.

Fullness
SKINSHAPE face zones: double chin and lower face
SKINSHAPE, mainly a body contouring treatment, also has two face zones: the double chin, for fullness under the chin, and the lower face, for jawline definition and lower-face contour. It uses Miglou second-generation microwave energy to warm the fat layer and the skin above it, so it suits soft, pinchable fullness that comes with mild laxity.
Face zones are priced the same as body zones: S$288 per zone per session before GST, and new clients can try one zone at S$88. A double chin is a single zone. Each zone takes about 30 minutes, and most people return to their day straight after; the area may feel warm for a short while.
If the main issue is loose skin rather than fullness, SKINLIFT usually suits better, and the two are sometimes combined across a course.

Masseter and jaw slimming: a doctor's treatment
When the width comes from the masseter, the usual approach is a jaw slimming injection: small doses of a neuromodulator, a wrinkle-relaxing injection, placed into the muscle at measured points. The muscle is used less and gradually thins, so the lower face looks softer and more tapered. Because this is a prescription treatment, SkinRev Lab does not perform it, and there is no non-invasive device here that reliably slims an enlarged chewing muscle.
Dr Sin Yong at IN Eternity Clinic examines the jaw at rest and while you clench, checks for fat, bone shape, gland enlargement and skin laxity, and explains how much of the width is muscle before treating. The injections take a few minutes. Slimming usually becomes visible from around two to four weeks and is temporary, as the muscle slowly regains bulk over months.
Chewing tough food may tire the jaw for a few weeks, and an uneven smile is a possible side effect if product affects nearby muscles. In people with thin cheeks or early jowling, slimming the muscle can make jowls look heavier, which is why skin quality is checked first. A 2026 meta-analysis of five placebo-controlled trials with 536 people found improved masseter prominence and thickness in the short term, but no agreed ideal dose or protocol (Machado et al., 2026). Other causes
Bone, chin shape and other doctor-led options
- Flared jaw angle: if the width is bone, injections will not narrow it. Bone reshaping is surgery by maxillofacial or plastic surgeons, and Dr Sin Yong can explain when a referral makes sense.
- Set-back chin: when the chin sits further back, the lower face can look wider and the area under the chin fuller. Adding chin projection, for example with chin filler at IN Eternity Clinic, can make the face look more tapered without touching the jaw angle.
- Fat under the chin, medical route: fat freezing with a small applicator, performed by Dr Sin Yong after checking that the fullness is pinchable fat. Change develops over two to three months.
- New lump near the jaw angle, or one side much larger: see a doctor first. A prominent parotid gland or other cause needs a diagnosis, not slimming.
Expectations
Combining treatments, and what is realistic
Many faces have more than one cause, so plans often combine two approaches: jaw slimming for the muscle with SKINLIFT for early jowls, or SKINSHAPE for fullness under the chin with SKINLIFT to firm the skin. Doing them in a sensible order, a few weeks apart, makes it easier to see what each one did.
None of these gives a new face shape on the day. Muscle slimming shows over weeks, fat reduction over weeks to a few months, and collagen remodelling over about two to three months. Results vary with your anatomy, age and habits such as clenching or grinding, which can keep enlarging the masseter. If you grind at night, a dentist may still need to look at your teeth, whatever is done for the jaw shape.
