Hair transplant in Singapore FUE, FUT, and the alternatives worth knowing
A hair transplant moves your own follicles to thinning areas. It suits some people very well and others not at all. Here is how FUE and FUT differ, who is a good candidate, what it costs, and the non-surgical routes to consider first or alongside.

Quick answer
- A hair transplant is surgery that moves hair follicles from the back or sides of the scalp to thinning areas. FUE takes follicles out one by one and leaves tiny dot scars; FUT removes a strip of scalp and leaves a fine linear scar.
- Good candidates have enough donor hair and a diagnosed, fairly stable pattern of hair loss. Transplanted hair usually sheds in the first weeks, and most people see results six to nine months after surgery, sometimes up to a year.
- In October 2026, Singapore clinics publicly quoted FUE at about S$4 to S$8 per graft before GST, with one clinic citing an average procedure of around S$10,000. Neither SkinRev Lab nor IN Eternity Clinic performs hair transplants.
- Alternatives include doctor-led medical hair loss treatment, H2LT laser and Regenera Activa at IN Eternity Clinic (priced at consultation), and, for appearance and scalp condition, scalp micropigmentation (priced at consultation) and Rejuran Scalp Care (S$348 before GST) at SkinRev Lab.
The basics
What a hair transplant does, and what it cannot
A hair transplant takes follicles from the donor area at the back and sides of the scalp, where hair is usually less affected by pattern hair loss, and places them into thinning or bald areas. The moved follicles tend to keep growing in their new place. It is surgery, done by a doctor under local anaesthetic, and in Singapore hair transplantation is one of the procedures covered by the Singapore Medical Council's guidelines on aesthetic practice for doctors.
Two limits matter. The donor supply is finite, so a transplant redistributes hair rather than creating more of it. And pattern hair loss usually continues around the transplanted area, which is why doctors often recommend medical treatment afterwards to protect the hair you still have.
Neither SkinRev Lab nor IN Eternity Clinic performs hair transplants. This guide explains the procedure so you can compare it fairly with the options we do offer.
FUE or FUT
FUE vs FUT: how the two methods differ
Both methods move follicular units, the natural groups of one to four hairs, and both can give natural-looking results in experienced hands. The difference is how the donor hair is harvested.
| FUE (follicular unit excision) | FUT (strip) | |
|---|---|---|
| Harvesting | Follicular units taken out one at a time with a tiny punch | A thin strip of scalp removed and divided into grafts |
| Donor scar | Many tiny dot scars, spread out | One fine linear scar, hidden by longer hair |
| Short haircuts | Usually suits very short styles | The line can show with very short hair |
| Time | Longer for the same number of grafts | Often quicker to harvest |
| Donor recovery | Small scabs; usually little discomfort | Stitches or staples; tightness for a while |
| Often chosen for | Smaller sessions, short hair, wish to avoid a linear scar | Larger sessions where donor efficiency matters |
Candidates
Who suits a hair transplant, and who should wait
- Suits: people with pattern hair loss, a clear diagnosis and enough healthy donor hair.
- Suits: a receding hairline or thinning crown that has been fairly stable, so the design will still look right in later years.
- Wait: hair loss that is changing quickly or has not been diagnosed; younger people whose pattern is still evolving need careful planning.
- Not suitable without specialist advice: patchy alopecia areata, scarring alopecias, or shedding after illness, childbirth or a new medicine, which often settles on its own.
- Women can be candidates, but female pattern thinning is often spread across the top of the scalp, so a doctor's assessment of donor hair and cause comes first.
- Health matters: bleeding problems, blood-thinning medicines and some medical conditions need to be discussed with the surgeon.
Recovery
What recovery and results usually look like
A transplant usually takes about four to eight hours, and most people stay awake with local anaesthetic. The scalp is bandaged afterwards, and you are given home-care instructions. Expect some tenderness, swelling and small scabs in the first days.
Transplanted hairs typically fall out two to eight weeks after surgery. This is normal: the follicles stay in place and start a new growth cycle. By the third month the area can look thinner than before. Most people see results six to nine months after surgery, and some take up to a year.
Because hair loss can continue, ask the surgeon how they plan for future thinning, how many grafts they suggest and why, and who will perform each step of the procedure.
Costs
Hair transplant cost in Singapore
Hair transplants are usually priced per graft. In October 2026, public price pages from Singapore clinics quoted FUE at about S$4 to S$8 per graft before GST, with higher per-graft rates for small sessions or unshaven techniques, and one clinic citing an average procedure of around S$10,000. The total depends on the number of grafts, the method and whether medicines and reviews are included.
Ask for the graft estimate, what is included and the GST position in writing before you commit. A low per-graft price on a very high graft count can cost more than a careful plan with fewer grafts.
For comparison, the options we offer are not surgery and do the job differently: medical treatment and laser at IN Eternity Clinic are priced at consultation by the clinic; at SkinRev Lab, scalp micropigmentation is priced at consultation after a short assessment, and Rejuran Scalp Care is S$348 per 90-minute session before GST.

Doctor-led
Medical alternatives at IN Eternity Clinic
For thinning where many follicles are still present, medical treatment is often the first step and can delay or reduce the need for surgery. At IN Eternity Clinic, Dr Sin Yong starts with a history, a magnified scalp examination and blood tests where indicated, then builds a plan that may combine prescription medication, H2LT laser sessions and Regenera Activa.
Regenera Activa is not a hair transplant: a few small samples are taken from the back of the scalp, processed into micrografts in the same visit and injected into thinning areas. Like medication and laser, it supports follicles that are weakened but still alive, and cannot fill an area that has been bald for years. Treatment is priced at consultation by the clinic; WhatsApp +65 8815 3008.
Non-medical
Scalp micropigmentation and scalp care at SkinRev Lab
Scalp micropigmentation (SMP) is cosmetic tattooing that places fine pigment dots in the scalp to create the look of density at a thinning crown or parting, or a defined hairline. It does not grow hair or slow hair loss. It suits people who prefer not to have surgery, areas that are already bald, and people who want to soften the look of a transplant scar or add density between transplanted hairs. At SkinRev Lab it is priced at consultation after a short assessment, and density is built over more than one session.
Rejuran Scalp Care is the Korea Professional (Scalp) tier of our Rejuran PDRN Facial: 90 minutes, S$348 before GST, with needle-free c-PDRN infusion for the condition and comfort of the scalp. It is not a regrowth treatment. If your hair loss is undiagnosed or changing, see a doctor first.
SkinRev Lab is at CityLink Mall #B1-28, 1 Raffles Link, linked underground to City Hall and Esplanade MRT, open daily 11am to 8pm; WhatsApp +65 8266 9585.

Common questions
Your questions,
answered
How much is a hair transplant in Singapore?
In October 2026, Singapore clinics publicly quoted FUE at about S$4 to S$8 per graft before GST, with one clinic citing an average procedure of around S$10,000. The total depends on the number of grafts and the method, so ask for a written estimate.
Does SkinRev Lab or IN Eternity Clinic do hair transplants?
No. Neither performs hair transplants. IN Eternity Clinic offers medical hair loss treatment, H2LT laser and Regenera Activa, and SkinRev Lab offers scalp micropigmentation and Rejuran Scalp Care.
Which is better, FUE or FUT?
Neither is better for everyone. FUE avoids a linear scar and suits short hairstyles; FUT can be efficient for large sessions but leaves a fine line at the back of the scalp. The right choice depends on your donor hair, hairstyle and how many grafts you need.
Do transplanted hairs last?
Transplanted follicles usually keep growing because they come from areas less affected by pattern loss. Your other hair can keep thinning, though, so doctors often recommend medical treatment afterwards to maintain the overall result.
When will I see results after a hair transplant?
Transplanted hair usually sheds within two to eight weeks, and the area may look thinner around the third month. Most people see results six to nine months after surgery, and some take up to a year.
Can women have a hair transplant?
Yes, if they have enough stable donor hair. Female pattern thinning is often spread across the top of the scalp, so a doctor should confirm the cause and check the donor area first.
Is Regenera Activa a hair transplant?
No. It uses tiny samples of your own scalp processed into micrografts and injected into thinning areas, in one visit. It supports thinning hair but does not move follicles, so it cannot fill bald areas.
Is scalp micropigmentation an alternative to a hair transplant?
It is an alternative for appearance, not for growth. SMP creates the look of density or a defined hairline with pigment and can be combined with a transplant, for example to soften a scar. At SkinRev Lab it is priced at consultation.
