Dehydrated Skin Treatment in Singapore
Dehydration is a shortage of water in the outer layer of the skin, not a shortage of oil. Treating it means helping the skin hold water, not just adding heavier cream.

Dehydrated skin feels tight after cleansing, looks dull by mid-afternoon and shows fine criss-cross lines that fade once you apply moisturiser. It can happen to oily, acne-prone or combination skin, which surprises many people. Dehydration is a lack of water in the outer layer, not a lack of oil, so a sensible dehydrated skin treatment in Singapore focuses on helping the skin hold water rather than simply piling on richer creams.
The outermost layer, the stratum corneum, holds water using natural moisturising factor inside its cells and ordered lipids between them. When that barrier is disrupted, water escapes faster, a process called transepidermal water loss. Common triggers here include long hours in air-conditioning, hot showers, foaming cleansers, over-exfoliation, acne creams and sun exposure. Deeper down, the dermis also holds less of its own hyaluronic acid with age, so skin retains less water from within.
Dry skin, which is a skin type with low oil, and dehydrated skin, which is a temporary condition, often overlap. Eczema and other forms of dermatitis can look similar too. If skin is red, itchy, scaly or cracked, a doctor should confirm the diagnosis before any facial or injectable treatment is planned. Once the cause is clear, dehydration usually improves with a calmer routine plus targeted hydration, either on the surface at SkinRev or within the dermis at IN Eternity Clinic.

“Oily skin can still be dehydrated: shine on the surface says nothing about how much water the outer layer is holding.”
— Dr Sin Yong, IN Eternity Clinic
- What it is
- A shortage of water in the outer skin layer; a condition, not a skin type
- Layer involved
- Stratum corneum, about 10–20 µm thick on most of the body, plus hyaluronic acid in the dermis
- Main mechanism
- Higher transepidermal water loss (TEWL) through a disrupted barrier
- Common triggers
- Air-conditioning, hot water, harsh cleansers, over-exfoliation, sun, some acne treatments
- Typical signs
- Tightness, dullness, fine criss-cross lines, makeup that flakes or settles into lines
What goes where
The honest ladder:
non-invasive first, medical when it is needed
At SkinRev Lab · non-invasive
HydraFacial Syndeo — Vortex cleansing, gentle extraction and hydrating serums refresh the surface and leave skin feeling more comfortable. The hydration effect is short-term, so it suits regular maintenance rather than a one-off fix. Read more
Needleless SkinBooster — Hydrating boosters are delivered into the skin without needles, aiming for more noticeable plumpness than a surface facial. It does not reach the dermis the way an injected booster does. Read more
Rejuran® PDRN Facial (needle-free) — A topical c-PDRN facial, delivered without injection, aimed at calming and supporting skin quality. It suits dehydrated skin that has also become sensitised after treatments or harsh products. Read more
At IN Eternity Clinic · Dr Sin Yong
Injectable Skin Boosters — Small droplets of hyaluronic acid, polynucleotides or PDLLA are injected into the dermis. Hyaluronic acid binds water, so the aim is hydration from inside the skin rather than on the surface. How it works
Bio-Remodelling HA Injections — High-concentration hyaluronic acid placed at a few points spreads across a region to improve hydration and skin quality on the face or neck. It is not a filler and does not add volume. How it works
Enquiries to SkinRev Lab about medical treatments are passed to IN Eternity Clinic, where Dr Sin Yong performs them.
Start non-invasive if the problem is new, linked to an obvious trigger such as a new acne product, a long flight or a change in routine, and the skin is otherwise healthy. Fix the routine at the same time: a gentler cleanser, shorter lukewarm showers, a moisturiser with water-binding ingredients and a sealing layer, and daily sunscreen. See the doctor first if dehydration keeps returning despite good care, if you also want to improve fine lines and crepiness, or if there is redness, itching or scaling that could be eczema or dermatitis. Anyone using prescription acne medication should check with their doctor before any treatment. Many people do well with both: surface hydration for comfort and glow, and an injected booster where the skin also looks thin or crepey.

What the research says
The evidence,
with sources
A review of the molecular basis of skin hydration describes how the stratum corneum retains water through natural moisturising factor inside its cells and lipids arranged between them, and how rising transepidermal water loss disturbs normal shedding and leads to visible dryness and flaking (Verdier-Sévrain and Bonté). A 2023 review of moisturisers explains how occlusives, humectants and emollients each support the barrier, and notes that moisturisers reduced transepidermal water loss in several studies (Rajkumar et al.).
For injected treatment, a 2025 systematic review and meta-analysis found that hyaluronic acid injected into the skin improved hydration and radiance compared with controls, without a significant change in elasticity (Zhou and Yu). A randomised, double-blind, split-face study comparing a non-cross-linked hyaluronic acid gel with saline found better hydration and radiance on the treated side after a series of sessions (Duteil et al.). These studies are small and follow people for months, not years, so maintenance should be expected.

Common questions
Your questions,
answered
What is the difference between dry and dehydrated skin?
Dry skin is a skin type: it makes less oil, so it feels rough and needs richer moisturisers all the time. Dehydrated skin is a condition: the outer layer is short of water, often because the barrier has been disturbed. Oily skin can be dehydrated, and dry skin can be dehydrated as well. The tell-tale signs are tightness, dullness and fine lines that fade after moisturising.
What dehydrated skin treatment in Singapore suits oily or acne-prone skin?
Oily skin still needs water, just not heavy oils. HydraFacial Syndeo at SkinRev cleans out congestion and hydrates without leaving a greasy film, and the Needleless SkinBooster adds lightweight hydration. At home, a gel moisturiser with water-binding ingredients usually works better than skipping moisturiser altogether. If acne is active and needs prescription treatment, Dr Sin Yong can plan hydration around it.
How much does dehydrated skin treatment in Singapore cost?
At SkinRev, HydraFacial Syndeo is from S$288 per session, the Needleless SkinBooster is S$288 per region, and the Rejuran® PDRN Facial is S$128–S$348. Injectable skin boosters and bio-remodelling hyaluronic acid are medical treatments, so their pricing is given at consultation at IN Eternity Clinic after Dr Sin Yong has assessed your skin and the areas involved.
Will drinking more water fix dehydrated skin?
Drinking enough water matters for general health, and severe dehydration does show in the skin. For most healthy adults, though, the outer layer stays dehydrated mainly because water escapes through a weakened barrier, not because they drink too little. Repairing the barrier with gentler cleansing, a suitable moisturiser and sun protection usually matters more, with treatments as support.
Are injectable skin boosters painful, and is there downtime?
Numbing cream is applied first, and most people describe a series of small pricks. Tiny raised bumps at the injection points usually settle within a day or two, and a small bruise is possible. Makeup can usually go on the next day. People on blood thinners, with active skin infection or who are pregnant should mention this, because the plan may need to change.
How soon will I notice a difference?
Hydrating facials usually make the skin feel more comfortable the same day, but the effect fades over days to weeks. Injected boosters work more gradually, as the hyaluronic acid settles and binds water, and a course is usually planned at consultation. Routine changes take a few weeks to show, because the outer layer renews itself over roughly a month.
