Laser hair removal price in Singapore: what sets the cost, and how to read a quote

What you pay for laser hair removal reflects the area, the number of sessions your hair needs, your hair and skin type, and the device and the person using it. Here is how those factors add up, why per-session and course quotes look so different, and what a fair quote should spell out.

Quick answer

  • Laser hair removal price in Singapore depends mainly on four things: the size of the area, how many sessions your hair is likely to need, your hair colour and skin tone, and the device and who operates it. That is why many clinics quote after an assessment rather than from a fixed list.
  • A per-session price and a course price answer different questions. Laser works only on hairs in the active growth phase, so a course of sessions spaced weeks apart is normal; the American Academy of Dermatology says the majority of patients need 2 to 6 treatments, and some regrowth with maintenance is usual.
  • A fair quote names the device and wavelength, who performs it, the areas and their boundaries, the expected sessions and interval, what is included, and what happens if you need more. In Singapore, class 4 hair removal lasers may be operated on people only by registered medical practitioners at MOH-approved premises.
  • At SkinRev Lab, CityLink Mall, and IN Eternity Clinic, Pacific Plaza, laser hair removal is performed by Dr Sin Yong on the Lutronic Clarity II (755 nm and 1064 nm) and priced at consultation. Waxing at SkinRev Lab, S$18 to S$118 an area with GST included, is the temporary alternative.

The short version

Laser hair removal price in Singapore: why there is no single number

Laser hair removal is a course of treatment, not a single product, so a price only makes sense once three things are known: which areas are being treated, roughly how many sessions your hair will need, and which device and settings suit your skin. A clinic that names a figure before seeing your skin and hair is either quoting one session for a typical case or assuming a number of sessions on your behalf.

The cost of each visit reflects the time on the device, which ranges from a few minutes for the upper lip to under an hour for the full back or legs, plus cooling, eye protection, consumables and the time of the person operating the laser. The number of visits then multiplies that figure, and it is the part that differs a great deal between people.

This guide explains those factors so you can compare quotes on the same terms. It does not list other clinics' prices. At SkinRev Lab, laser hair removal is priced at consultation, after Dr Sin Yong has examined the areas you want treated.

Factor 1

Area size, and where the boundaries are drawn

The bigger the area, the longer each session takes. Small areas include the upper lip, chin and underarms; medium areas include the bikini line, half arms and the neck; large areas include the full legs, full back and chest. Many people treat more than one area at a visit, and each area is usually assessed on its own.

Area names are used loosely, so ask what each one includes. A 'bikini line' at one clinic may be closer to a Brazilian at another, a 'full face' may or may not include the neck, and 'half legs' can mean above or below the knee. Agree the boundaries in writing, or have them marked on the skin at the first session, so that two quotes are describing the same treatment.

Density matters as well as size. A dense back, or a Brazilian with coarse dark hair, takes more pulses and more time than a sparse area of the same size.

Factor 2

How many sessions your hair is likely to need

Laser damages only follicles in the active growth phase, when the hair is pigmented and still attached to its root. At any moment some follicles are resting, so each session reaches only part of the hair in an area, and treatment is given as a course spaced several weeks apart. At SkinRev Lab, sessions are usually four to eight weeks apart, with the face closer together than the legs or back.

The American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) says to expect a 10% to 25% reduction in hair after the first treatment, that the majority of patients need 2 to 6 treatments, and that some regrowth is usual, with maintenance treatments when needed. A clinical review reported that, in people with fair skin and dark hair, one treatment reduced hair by about 10% to 40% and three treatments by about 30% to 70%. These figures come from favourable cases and are not a forecast for you.

Areas driven by hormones, such as the chin and jawline in women or the beard line in men, tend to respond more slowly and often need maintenance. That is why the number of sessions, more than the price of one session, decides the total cost.

Permanent hair removal vs permanent hair reduction →

Factor 3

Hair colour, thickness and skin tone

Laser works by heating the pigment in the hair, so dark, coarse hair on lighter skin usually responds fastest. Fine hair, lighter brown hair and hormonally driven growth respond more slowly. White, grey, very blonde and red hair carry too little pigment for any laser to target well, so a course on that hair is unlikely to be worth paying for; waxing, or electrolysis from a trained electrologist, are more realistic options.

Skin tone changes the choice of wavelength and settings more than whether you can be treated. The darker the skin, the more its own melanin competes with the hair for the light. The 755 nm alexandrite wavelength suits fairer skin and finer dark hair, while the 1064 nm Nd:YAG wavelength is absorbed less by skin pigment and is the usual choice for tanned or darker skin. A meta-analysis of trials in skin types III to VI found broadly similar hair reduction across devices, with long-pulsed Nd:YAG causing less post-inflammatory darkening than intense pulsed light (IPL).

A fresh tan raises the risk of burns and pigment change, so a session may be postponed until it fades. If you play outdoor sport or travel often, build that into the timeline, because postponed sessions stretch the course.

Unwanted hair: waxing or laser →

Factor 4

The device, and who holds the handpiece

Ask whether you are being quoted for a laser or for IPL. IPL is a broad-spectrum flash lamp, not a laser, and 'SHR' describes a way of delivering energy (low energy, many passes) rather than a type of machine, so neither label tells you the wavelength. The device, its wavelengths and how the settings are adjusted for your skin all affect both results and risk.

Singapore draws a clear line on who may operate hair removal lasers. The National Environment Agency (NEA) states that only registered medical practitioners may operate class 4 high-power lasers on people, and only at premises approved by the Ministry of Health. The AAD warns that burns, permanent changes in skin colour and scars can occur in inexperienced hands, and recommends treatment by a medical doctor who is skilled in lasers.

A doctor-performed laser session may cost more per visit than a light-based treatment elsewhere, so compare what is actually being delivered, not only the figure on the quote.

Reading quotes

Per-session or course quote: why the numbers look so different

A per-session price tells you what one visit costs. It does not tell you how many visits you will need, so a low per-session figure can still add up to a larger total. A course quote assumes a number of sessions in advance; it is only as reliable as that assumption, and hair rarely follows a fixed timetable.

When you compare, turn every quote into the same question: what is the likely total to reach a result you are happy with, and what happens after that? Ask how the clinic decides when you have had enough, what you pay if you need more sessions than planned, and what happens to sessions you do not use, for example if you become pregnant, move away or find the hair has stopped responding.

Be wary of anything that rushes the decision, such as a price said to be available only today. A medical treatment should be planned after an assessment, and refund and cancellation terms should be in writing before you pay.

What a fair laser hair removal quote includes

A clear quote answers these points in writing. If a clinic cannot answer them, its figure is hard to compare with anyone else's.

A quote that leaves some of these blank is not necessarily a poor one, but ask before you pay rather than after.

  • The device and wavelength for each area, and whether it is a laser or IPL.
  • Who performs the treatment, and their qualifications.
  • The exact areas and their boundaries, ideally drawn or marked.
  • The expected number of sessions and the interval between them, with the reasoning.
  • What is included: consultation, test patch, numbing cream, eye protection and reviews.
  • What happens if you need more sessions, or fewer, and how maintenance is charged.
  • Refund, cancellation and rescheduling terms, including for pregnancy or a tan.
  • The risks for your skin type, and what the clinic does if a side effect occurs.

Beyond the session

Costs beyond the session: maintenance, aftercare and side effects

Plan for maintenance. In the US, hair removal lasers are cleared for 'permanent hair reduction', defined as a long-term, stable reduction in the number of hairs regrowing, not removal of every hair. Hair often returns in part, finer and lighter, and hormonal change can wake new follicles, so occasional maintenance sessions are common after the main course. Ask how they are charged.

Numbing cream adds comfort on sensitive areas, but it must be used as directed. The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has warned against over-the-counter products with more than 4% lidocaine, heavy application over large areas, use on irritated or broken skin, and wrapping treated skin, because of risks such as irregular heartbeat, seizures and breathing difficulties.

Side effects carry costs too. Redness and small bumps around the follicles usually settle within hours, but burns, blistering, pigment change and, uncommonly, paradoxical hypertrichosis (new hair growth near a treated area, reported in about 3% of patients in a meta-analysis and mainly on the face and neck) can mean extra visits and time. A low price that comes with little assessment can cost more in the end.

Daily sunscreen on exposed treated areas, and shaving rather than waxing between sessions, are part of the course whatever you pay.

At SkinRev Lab

Laser hair removal at SkinRev Lab: consultation and pricing

At SkinRev Lab, laser hair removal is performed by Dr Sin Yong (MBBS Singapore, MRCS Edinburgh, MSc Practical Dermatology Cardiff) on the Lutronic Clarity II, which carries the 755 nm alexandrite and 1064 nm Nd:YAG wavelengths in one machine. At consultation he looks at your skin type, hair colour and thickness, the areas you want treated, recent sun exposure and your medicines, then chooses the wavelength area by area. A small test area may be done first if your skin is darker or sensitive.

He will go through the options, including waxing, shaving or no treatment at all, and whether something should be checked first, such as new coarse facial or body hair in a woman with irregular periods, or grey hair that laser cannot target. Laser hair removal is priced at consultation, because the plan depends on the areas and the number of sessions your hair is likely to need. Treatment is usually deferred in pregnancy, on freshly tanned skin and with light-sensitising medicines. Waxing at SkinRev Lab is S$18 to S$118 an area, GST included.

Laser hair removal is available at SkinRev Lab, #B1-28 CityLink Mall, 1 Raffles Link, Singapore 039393, underground from City Hall and Esplanade MRT, open daily 11am to 8pm (WhatsApp +65 8266 9585), and at IN Eternity Clinic, 9 Scotts Road, #12-01 Pacific Plaza, beside Orchard MRT, Monday to Saturday (WhatsApp SkinRev Lab on +65 8266 9585 or IN Eternity Clinic on +65 8815 3008).

Common questions

Your questions,
answered

How much does laser hair removal cost in Singapore?

It depends on the area, the number of sessions your hair needs, your hair and skin type, and the device and operator, so totals vary widely between people. At SkinRev Lab and IN Eternity Clinic, laser hair removal is performed by Dr Sin Yong and priced at consultation, after he has assessed the areas.

Why don't clinics publish one laser hair removal price?

Because a meaningful figure depends on an assessment. Area boundaries, hair density and colour, skin tone and hormones change the number of sessions, and the number of sessions is what drives the total. Where a price is shown, check whether it is per session or for a course, and what it assumes.

Is a lower per-session price better value?

Not necessarily. Compare the likely total for the course, the device and wavelength, who performs it, and what happens if you need more sessions. A lower figure per visit can add up to more if more visits are needed or a side effect has to be managed.

Should I pay for a course upfront?

That is your decision. If you do, read the terms first: how many sessions are assumed, what happens if you need more or fewer, and what happens to unused sessions if you become pregnant, move or stop responding. Avoid deciding under time pressure.

Does darker skin cost more to treat?

Skin tone mainly changes the wavelength and settings. The 1064 nm Nd:YAG wavelength is the usual choice for tanned or darker skin, a test area may be done first, and a fresh tan can postpone sessions, which lengthens the course.

Is IPL a cheaper alternative to laser?

IPL is a different technology: a broad-spectrum flash lamp rather than a laser. A meta-analysis in skin types III to VI found broadly similar results across devices, with long-pulsed Nd:YAG causing less darkening than IPL. Compare the device, the operator and the total course rather than the label. SkinRev Lab does not offer IPL.

Will I need to pay for maintenance sessions?

Often, from time to time. Laser gives long-term reduction rather than removal of every hair, and hormonal change can activate new follicles. Ask how maintenance is planned and charged before you start.

What if laser will not work on my hair?

White, grey, very blonde and red hair respond poorly because they carry little pigment. A doctor should tell you this at consultation rather than plan a course. Waxing works on any hair colour for a few weeks, and electrolysis treats follicles one by one.

Can I wax between sessions to save money?

No. Waxing, plucking and threading remove the root that the laser needs to heat. Shave instead, and stop waxing about four weeks before your first session.
