Needle-free vs injectable skin booster how deep each goes, and which one you need
Both aim at better-hydrated, healthier-looking skin, but they differ in depth, setting and timeline. Here is an honest comparison from an aesthetic centre that offers the needle-free route and refers injectables to a doctor.

Quick answer
- An injectable skin booster places hyaluronic acid (HA), polynucleotide (PN) or PDLLA directly into the dermis, about 1 to 2 mm deep, as tiny droplets. In Singapore it is a medical procedure performed by a doctor.
- A needle-free skin booster, such as Needleless SkinBooster at SkinRev Lab, delivers booster solution past the skin's outer barrier through a specialised applicator tip, without puncturing the skin. It does not reach injection depth.
- Injections deliver product deeper. Needle-free delivery is gentler and works closer to the surface: hydration is often noticed first, while tone and skin quality build across a course.
- Needleless SkinBooster is S$288 per region (face or neck) before GST, with the first region from S$98. Injectable boosters are performed by Dr Sin Yong at IN Eternity Clinic and priced at consultation by the clinic.

The short version
Same goal, different depth
Search for a skin booster in Singapore and most results describe an injection. A needle-free skin booster aims at the same broad goal, skin that looks better hydrated, more even and in better condition, by a different route.
SkinRev Lab is a non-invasive aesthetic centre at CityLink Mall. We offer Needleless SkinBooster, performed by our Aesthetic Specialists, and we do not inject. Injectable skin boosters are performed by Dr Sin Yong at IN Eternity Clinic, our affiliated clinic at Pacific Plaza. So we have no reason to steer you away from either, and if an injection suits your goal better, we will say so.
How depth works
The skin barrier, the dermis and why the route matters
The outermost layer of skin, the stratum corneum, exists to keep things out. A widely cited review argues that compounds above roughly 500 daltons pass through intact skin poorly, which is why a serum applied by hand largely sits on the surface. Many booster ingredients, hyaluronic acid among them, are far larger than that.
An injectable booster gets round the barrier by going under it. A doctor places microdroplets of about 0.01 to 0.05 mL into the dermis, roughly 1 to 2 mm deep and about 1 cm apart, using a fine needle, an injector device or a cannula.
Needle-free delivery works differently. Needleless SkinBooster uses a specialised applicator tip to drive booster solution through the barrier and into the skin, worked evenly across a region rather than into chosen points. The surface is not punctured, so bleeding and scabbing are not expected. The trade-off is depth: it reaches into the skin, but not to the dermal depth an injection reaches.
A note on wording: some devices sold as needle-free are jet injectors, which push product into the dermis under pressure. That is still an injection, just without a needle, and a different category from an applicator that does not break the skin.

Needleless SkinBooster vs injectable skin booster
How the two routes compare in our network.
| Needleless SkinBooster (SkinRev Lab) | Injectable skin booster (IN Eternity Clinic) | |
|---|---|---|
| How it is delivered | Booster solution driven through the skin barrier by a specialised applicator tip | Microdroplets injected into the skin with a fine needle, injector device or cannula |
| Skin punctured | No | Yes |
| Depth reached | Into the skin, but not to injection depth | Dermis and the junction just below it, about 1 to 2 mm deep |
| What is delivered | A booster matched at consultation: hydration, pigmentation and tone, or overall skin quality | An HA, polynucleotide (PN) or PDLLA booster, or a combination, chosen by the doctor |
| Who performs it | An Aesthetic Specialist, in a non-medical setting | A doctor: Dr Sin Yong, in a registered clinic |
| The session | Shorter than a facial: prepare, deliver, settle | 30 to 45 minutes, including numbing cream |
| Afterwards | Skin may look flushed for a short while; recovery time is usually minimal | Small bumps and redness for hours to a day or two; bruising possible |
| How change shows | Hydration often soon after; tone and skin quality build across a course | Gradually over weeks, usually across a course |

Does it work?
Is a needleless skin booster effective?
Effective at what it is designed for, yes. Equivalent to an injection, no. We would rather say that plainly than have you find out halfway through a course.
Hydration is usually the first change people notice, because water held in the skin changes relatively quickly; it also fades as sun and air-conditioning dry the skin out, so it needs maintenance. Brightening and skin-quality boosters build more slowly across a course, typically spaced every two to four weeks.
On the evidence: physical methods of moving actives past the skin barrier have been studied for years, and a randomised study found topical hyaluronic acid creams improved hydration and elasticity compared with placebo. We found no published studies on the specific applicator we use, and evidence for injected boosters does not transfer to needle-free delivery. So we describe it as a gentler, closer-to-the-surface route, not an injection without the needle.
What it will not do: add volume, lift sagging skin, fill hollows, or remove a defined sun spot or deeper pigment such as melasma. Injectable boosters do not do those things either; they call for lifting, filler or laser, assessed by a doctor. Results vary, and suitability is assessed first.
Choosing
Which route suits you
A few practical questions usually settle it.
- Needle-free suits you if you would rather avoid needles, need to go straight back to work or to an event, or want maintenance between other treatments.
- Needle-free also fits if your main concern is dehydrated, dull or uneven-looking skin, recent post-acne marks or early fine lines, and you are happy to build change across a course.
- Consider an injectable if you want product placed directly in the dermis, for example for fine crepey lines on the under-eyes, neck or hands, and you can plan around a day or two of small bumps and possible bruising.
- Consider an injectable if needle-free and topical routes have not given you what you want; the doctor will say whether a booster fits or your concern needs something else.
- If you are unsure, start with an assessment. Our Aesthetic Specialist will tell you when a goal is better served by a doctor, and SkinRev Lab can pass your enquiry to IN Eternity Clinic.
The injectable route
Injectable skin boosters at IN Eternity Clinic
Injectable skin boosters fall into three families. HA boosters use soft hyaluronic acid to attract and hold water in the dermis. Polynucleotide (PN) boosters, such as Rejuran® Healer, use purified DNA fragments thought to support tissue repair, and are often considered for thin or sensitive skin. PDLLA boosters use tiny poly-D,L-lactic acid particles that prompt a gradual collagen response, so change is slower.
In Singapore, injectables are a medical procedure. The Ministry of Health has said that dermal fillers and botulinum toxin should only be administered by qualified medical practitioners, and injectable skin boosters are likewise performed by doctors. At IN Eternity Clinic, 9 Scotts Road, #12-01 Pacific Plaza, beside Orchard MRT, they are performed by Dr Sin Yong (MBBS Singapore, MRCS Edinburgh, MSc Practical Dermatology Cardiff).
Numbing cream is usually applied for 20 to 30 minutes. Boosters are not advised during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or over active infection, cold sores or inflamed acne, and PN boosters are derived from fish DNA. The cost depends on booster type, areas and number of sessions, so the clinic prices it at consultation: WhatsApp +65 8815 3008, Monday to Saturday, 11am to 8pm.
Prices
What each costs
Needleless SkinBooster is priced per region, per session, before GST. The face and the neck are separate regions at the same rate, because the neck's thinner skin is treated as an area in its own right rather than an add-on. Body regions vary in size and are quoted after an in-person assessment. A needle-free treatment and a doctor's injection are different services, so their prices are not directly comparable.

Using both
Can you combine needle-free and injectable boosters?
Yes, and some people do. A needle-free booster can be a starting point for someone not ready for injections, or a maintenance step between other treatments. It also pairs well with treatments that clean or resurface the skin first, such as HydraFacial Syndeo, because a prepared surface accepts actives more readily.
After an injectable booster, the clinic advises avoiding facial treatments for a day or two. Tell both teams what you have had and when, so sessions are spaced sensibly and do not work against each other.
SkinRev Lab is at #B1-28 CityLink Mall, 1 Raffles Link, on the underground link between City Hall MRT and Esplanade MRT. Open daily 11am to 8pm; WhatsApp +65 8266 9585.

Common questions
Your questions,
answered
Is a needleless skin booster as effective as an injectable one?
Not in the same way. An injection places HA, PN or PDLLA directly into the dermis, a depth needle-free delivery does not reach. A needleless skin booster is gentler and does not puncture the skin; hydration is often noticed first and tone builds over a course. It is a different trade-off, not a substitute.
Is there a skin booster without needles in Singapore?
Yes. Needleless SkinBooster at SkinRev Lab, CityLink Mall, delivers booster solution through a specialised applicator tip, with no needles and no puncture. It is performed by our Aesthetic Specialists and costs S$288 per region before GST, with the first region from S$98.
Who performs injectable skin boosters in Singapore?
A doctor, in a clinic. SkinRev Lab does not inject. In our network, injectable boosters are performed by Dr Sin Yong at IN Eternity Clinic, 9 Scotts Road, #12-01 Pacific Plaza, and are priced at consultation by the clinic.
Does a needle-free skin booster hurt?
There is no needle and nothing punctures the skin, so it does not feel like an injection. Skin can look flushed for a short while afterwards, and this settles quickly. If your skin is very sensitive, mention it at consultation.
How long do needleless skin booster results last?
Hydration is usually noticed first, and it fades as daily life dries the skin out again. Tone and skin quality build more slowly across a course and then need maintenance. Results vary.
How many sessions will I need?
There is no fixed number. Hydration often shows after a session; tone and skin quality build over a course, typically spaced every two to four weeks. You get a realistic plan at consultation, not a fixed package.
Is a needle-free injector the same as Needleless SkinBooster?
No. Needle-free jet injectors push product into the dermis under pressure, so they are a form of injection without a needle. Needleless SkinBooster does not puncture the skin and does not reach injection depth. If a treatment is described as needle-free, ask how it works and who performs it.
