Choosing a slimming centre in Singapore what treatments can do, and the red flags

Body treatments can reshape a pinchable area. They do not make you lose weight. Here is what slimming centres in Singapore commonly offer, what the evidence supports, the warning signs to walk away from, and how SkinRev Lab prices its body treatments.

Quick answer

  • Fat reduction is not weight loss. Non-invasive body treatments reduce a few centimetres of pinchable fat in the treated area over a course, and reviews describe the effect as mild to moderate. The scale often barely moves.
  • Weight loss comes from eating and activity; SingHealth's HealthXchange recommends about 0.5 to 1 kg a week. Singapore's advertising code does not accept claims that weight loss can be achieved wholly by other means.
  • Walk away from promises of a set number of kilos, long prepaid packages and pressure to sign on the day. CASE advises paying per use or in smaller instalments where possible.
  • At SkinRev Lab, CityLink Mall, body treatments are priced per session: SKINSHAPE and SKINUSHAPE S$288 per zone, first zone S$88; SKINSCULPT S$288 per region, first region S$68. All before GST.
  • If your weight is affecting your health, start with a doctor. Medical weight management is provided by Dr Sin Yong at IN Eternity Clinic.

What a slimming centre can and cannot do for you

People searching for a slimming centre in Singapore, or the best slimming centre, are usually after one of two things: a smaller number on the scale, or a smoother shape in one area such as the tummy, love handles, thighs or arms. Those are different goals, and most slimming treatments only address the second.

Body contouring devices work on subcutaneous fat, the layer you can pinch between two fingers. They reduce a small volume in the treated zone, so clothes may fit differently while your weight barely changes. Fat around the organs, which feels firm and cannot be pinched, is not something any device can target.

So the useful first question is not which centre to pick, but whether your goal is weight or shape. If it is weight, or your health, see a doctor first. If you are at or near a stable, healthy weight with one or two stubborn areas, a body treatment may help.

The menu

What slimming centres in Singapore commonly offer

Menus vary, but most slimming centres draw on the same handful of approaches. This is what each can realistically do.

ApproachWhat it can doWhat it cannot do
Slimming massage and lymphatic drainageRelaxation; any change in how the skin looks tends to be short-livedRemove fat. A review of cellulite treatments, massage included, found none more than mildly and temporarily effective
Body wraps and sweat-based sessionsA drop on the scale straight afterwards, mostly waterReduce fat; the water comes back when you drink
Fat-reduction devices: microwave, ultrasound, radiofrequency, cryolipolysisReduce pinchable fat in a treated zone over a course, by a few centimetres of circumferenceChange your overall weight, or reach fat around the organs
Electromagnetic muscle stimulationStrong contractions that build muscle tone in one regionRemove a thick layer of fat on its own
Skin tighteningImprove loose or crepey skinReduce fat or weight
Slimming pills, teas and supplementsNothing you can rely on; some sold in Singapore have been found to contain a banned medicineBe trusted because the label says natural or herbal

Evidence

What the research says about non-invasive fat reduction

A 2015 review of 31 studies covering 2,937 patients found that several non-invasive devices could reduce local fat by 2 cm or more of circumference across the abdomen, hips and thighs, without serious adverse effects. A 2016 review described the clinical effects as mild to moderate, for example 2 to 4 cm of circumference across a course.

That is a real change for the right person: a waistband that sits better, a smoother outline. It is not a different body, and it does not replace eating well and moving more. Remaining fat cells can still enlarge if you gain weight, so a stable weight helps keep the result.

For weight itself, SingHealth's HealthXchange recommends a loss of 0.5 to 1 kg a week, through diet and exercise. A programme that promises much faster loss from treatments alone is promising something the evidence does not support.

Red flags

Warning signs at a slimming centre

Many problems with slimming and beauty businesses are about money and pressure rather than the treatment itself. In the first half of 2026 CASE received 1,124 complaints about the beauty industry, with prepayment losses of over S$1.9 million, and 15.3% of complaints involved alleged unethical sales tactics.

  • A promised number of kilos or centimetres. The Singapore Code of Advertising Practice expects slimming advertisements not to undermine a balanced, calorie-controlled diet, and does not accept claims that weight loss can be achieved wholly by other means.
  • Long or large prepaid packages, especially with a discount that only exists if you pay today.
  • Pressure on the treatment bed, or a trial session that turns into a sales presentation.
  • No assessment before a plan: nobody pinches the area, asks about your health or explains which layer is being treated.
  • Vague technology: staff cannot name the device or explain what it does.
  • Slimming pills or teas sold alongside the treatment. HSA has found slimming products sold online that contain sibutramine, a prescription weight-loss medicine banned in Singapore since 2010 because of the risk of heart attack and stroke.

Questions

Questions to ask any slimming centre before you pay

A good centre answers these plainly and puts the terms in writing. If the answers are vague, or you are told the offer ends today, take the paperwork home and decide later.

  • Is my concern fat, muscle, loose skin or overall weight, and how did you decide?
  • Which device will be used, and who operates it?
  • How many sessions are realistic for my area, and what is the total cost, not just the first visit?
  • Can I pay per session instead of buying a package?
  • If I buy a package, is the business CaseTrust-accredited, and what happens to unused sessions if I stop or the business closes?
  • What results are typical, how will they be measured, and what side effects should I expect?
  • When would you send me to a doctor instead?

At SkinRev Lab

How SkinRev Lab approaches body treatments

SkinRev Lab is a non-invasive aesthetic centre at CityLink Mall #B1-28, between City Hall and Esplanade MRT, rather than a slimming centre in the usual sense. Slimming massage and body wraps are not on our menu. Body treatments are performed by Aesthetic Specialists, priced per session, and start with an assessment, including a pinch test and a look at the skin, before anything is suggested.

Larger areas need more than one zone. A full abdomen is usually treated as two zones, so two SKINSHAPE zones come to S$576 per session before GST. Body contouring is planned as a course spaced a few weeks apart, so ask for the course total, not only the first-visit price. Your Aesthetic Specialist will recommend a realistic number at consultation rather than selling a fixed package. Results vary.

See a doctor first

When a doctor is the right first step

If your weight is affecting your health, a body treatment is the wrong place to start. For Asians, Singapore's guidelines use a BMI of 23 kg/m² as the point where health risk starts to rise and 27.5 kg/m² as high risk. Medical weight management is a doctor-supervised programme with assessment, blood tests and regular reviews, provided by Dr Sin Yong at IN Eternity Clinic, our affiliated clinic at 9 Scotts Road, #12-01 Pacific Plaza, beside Orchard MRT. It is priced at consultation by the clinic; WhatsApp +65 8815 3008, or ask SkinRev Lab to pass your enquiry on. See a doctor first if:

  • Your BMI is in the increased-risk range, or you have prediabetes, high blood pressure, raised cholesterol or fatty liver.
  • You have dieted repeatedly and regained, or your weight changed after starting a medicine or around menopause.
  • The fullness is firm and cannot be pinched, or there is a lump that feels different, is growing or is tender.
  • You are pregnant or breastfeeding, or have a current or past eating disorder.

Common questions

Your questions,
answered

Will a slimming treatment help me lose weight?

Not in any meaningful way. Non-invasive body treatments reduce a small volume of fat in the treated zones, so shape can change while the scale barely moves. Weight loss comes from eating and activity, and a doctor can help if weight affects your health.

How do I choose the best slimming centre in Singapore?

Look for an assessment before any plan, named technology, per-session prices you can see, written terms, and a centre that tells you when to see a doctor. Be wary of promised kilos, long prepaid packages and pressure to sign on the day.

Does slimming massage work?

Massage can be relaxing, but it does not remove fat. A review of cellulite treatments, massage included, found none more than mildly and temporarily effective. Slimming massage is not on SkinRev Lab's menu.

How much does a body treatment cost at SkinRev Lab?

SKINSHAPE and SKINUSHAPE are S$288 per 15 × 15 cm zone and SKINSCULPT is S$288 per region, per session before GST. First visits are S$88 for one zone and S$68 for one SKINSCULPT region. A full abdomen is usually two zones.

Do I have to buy a package at SkinRev Lab?

Prices are published per session. Your Aesthetic Specialist recommends a realistic number of sessions at consultation and sets out the total before anything is booked, rather than selling a fixed package before the area has been assessed.

Will the fat come back after treatment?

Treated fat cells are cleared by the body over several weeks, but the remaining fat cells can still enlarge if you gain weight. Keeping a stable weight helps keep the contour. Results vary from person to person.

Are slimming pills sold online safe?

Be careful. HSA has found slimming products sold online that contain sibutramine, a prescription weight-loss medicine banned in Singapore since 2010, and advises being wary of products that claim to be 100% natural or promise rapid weight loss. Speak to a doctor or dietitian instead.

Who should not start with a slimming treatment?

Anyone pregnant or breastfeeding, anyone whose weight is affecting their health, and anyone with firm fullness that cannot be pinched or an unexplained lump. See a doctor first; medical weight management is available at IN Eternity Clinic.
