Acne shows up as blackheads and whiteheads, small red bumps, pus-filled spots and, for some people, deep tender lumps that take weeks to settle. If you are looking for acne treatment in Singapore, it helps to know what is driving yours. Four things usually work together: oil glands making more sebum, often under hormonal influence; dead skin cells sticking inside the pore and plugging it; skin bacteria multiplying in that blocked, oily space; and the immune system reacting with redness and swelling.
Singapore's heat and humidity add their own pressure. Sweat, heavy sunscreen or make-up, masks and helmets can all keep pores blocked. Many adults, especially women in their twenties to forties, notice breakouts clustering along the jaw and chin around their cycle. Stress and short sleep do not cause acne on their own, but flares often follow them. Picking or squeezing pushes inflammation deeper into the skin, which is one reason dark marks and scars follow a bad spell.
Not every bumpy breakout is acne. Tiny, itchy, same-sized bumps on the forehead or chest can be a yeast-related folliculitis, and redness with flushing may point to rosacea instead. These look alike but respond to different care, so a doctor confirms the diagnosis before any prescription treatment starts. SkinRev's part is the non-invasive side: keeping pores clear and calming reactive skin, alongside or between medical treatment at IN Eternity Clinic.

“A facial can clear pores and calm angry skin, but it cannot switch off the hormones and inflammation behind persistent acne — that part needs a doctor.”

What goes where
The honest ladder:
non-invasive first, medical when it is needed
At SkinRev Lab · non-invasive
SKINLDM® — Dual-frequency ultrasound micro-massage aimed at calming reactive, inflamed or congested skin. It suits faces that feel hot and sore from active breakouts or from strong acne products, but it does not treat the oil gland or hormones behind acne, so it is support rather than a cure. Read more
HydraFacial Syndeo — Vortex cleansing, gentle extraction and hydration help lift blackheads and congestion and leave skin feeling less oily. It suits mild, mostly comedonal breakouts; deep, painful or cystic spots should not be extracted and are better seen by the doctor first. Read more
At IN Eternity Clinic · Dr Sin Yong
Acne grading and prescription treatment by Dr Sin Yong — At IN Eternity Clinic, Dr Sin Yong examines the type and severity of the acne, rules out look-alike conditions and plans prescription creams or gels, oral prescription medication or hormonal treatment where suitable. The plan is reviewed and adjusted at follow-up visits.
Assessment of marks and scarring by Dr Sin Yong — Once breakouts are under control, Dr Sin Yong can assess any dark marks or indented scars and plan treatment for them as a separate step, since the methods for scars differ from those for active acne.
Enquiries to SkinRev Lab about medical treatments are passed to IN Eternity Clinic, where Dr Sin Yong performs them.
Start at SkinRev if your breakouts are mostly blackheads, whiteheads and the odd red spot, and your skin feels congested or irritated rather than painful. See Dr Sin Yong first if you have deep lumps or cysts, if spots are leaving dark marks or dents, if acne has not improved after around three months of steady over-the-counter care, if it began suddenly in adulthood alongside irregular periods or extra hair growth, or if it is affecting your mood or confidence. Many people do both: medical treatment to control the acne, and SkinRev sessions to keep the skin comfortable while it settles.

What the research says
The evidence,
with sources
The American Academy of Dermatology's 2024 acne guideline was built on a systematic review graded with the GRADE method. It gives its strongest recommendations to a small group of prescription creams, gels and oral medicines, advises combining topical treatments that work in different ways, and recommends limiting how long oral courses aimed at bacteria are used. For acne that is severe, scarring, causing psychological distress or not responding to standard care, it strongly recommends a stronger oral prescription option that needs close medical supervision.
A Lancet review describes acne as a chronic inflammatory disease of the follicle and oil gland, driven by hormone-linked sebum, abnormal shedding of skin cells, bacterial colonisation and inflammation. It notes there is no single ideal treatment, though a suitable regimen can be found for most people. On scarring, a study of 1,972 people seeing dermatologists in the United States found scars in more than four in ten. Most of those with scars had only mild or moderate acne at the visit, and the time between acne starting and first effective treatment was a key risk factor that can be changed.

Common questions
Your questions,
answered
What is the most effective acne treatment in Singapore?
There is no single answer, because the right approach depends on your type of acne. Blackheads and mild congestion often respond to good daily care plus pore-clearing sessions. Inflamed, painful or scarring acne usually needs prescription treatment planned by a doctor, sometimes combining products that work in different ways. Dr Sin Yong grades the acne at IN Eternity Clinic first, then builds a plan that is reviewed over follow-up visits.
How much does acne treatment in Singapore cost?
For doctor-led acne care, pricing is given at consultation at IN Eternity Clinic, because it depends on the assessment and the plan. At SkinRev, SKINLDM® is S$288, and a HydraFacial Syndeo session is from S$288 per session. Our team will tell you honestly whether a SkinRev session suits your skin right now or whether seeing the doctor first makes more sense.
Can a facial clear my acne?
A facial can help with part of the problem. Cleansing and gentle extraction clear blackheads and congestion, and calming treatments ease redness and soreness. What a facial cannot do is reduce oil gland activity, rebalance hormones or control deep inflammation. For mild comedonal acne, regular sessions plus a sensible routine may be enough for many people. For anything deeper, facials work better as support alongside medical care.
How long does acne treatment take to work?
Most acne treatments need steady use over several weeks before you can judge them, often around two to three months, because a new pore plug takes time to form and clear. Skin can feel a little drier or more sensitive in the first weeks of prescription care. Individual results vary, which is why Dr Sin Yong reviews progress at follow-up and adjusts the plan rather than switching products every week.
How do I know if it is fungal acne or normal acne?
Yeast-related folliculitis, often called fungal acne, tends to appear as small, itchy bumps of similar size on the forehead, chest, back or upper arms, and it often worsens with heat and sweat. Normal acne is usually a mix of blackheads, red spots and pustules of different sizes. Because they need different treatment, the diagnosis should be confirmed by a doctor rather than guessed.
Will my acne leave scars?
Not always, but the risk rises with deeper, more inflamed spots, picking and squeezing, and a long gap before effective treatment. Dark marks after a spot usually fade with time and sun protection, while indented or raised scars are a change in the skin's structure. Getting active acne under control early is one of the most useful things you can do to lower the chance of lasting scars.
