Men's waxing prices at SkinRev Lab

SkinRev Lab, our non-invasive aesthetic centre at CityLink Mall, sorts every waxing area into one of four bands: Small, Medium, Large and Extra Large. The band sets the price, so you can be quoted accurately in one WhatsApp message, and the price you are told is the price you pay.

Men's rates are S$10 above the women's band, and S$20 above on Extra Large. That reflects coarser hair and longer time on the bed.

The first-visit rate applies once per new client, to one area, on the first session. A perianal strip can be added to any Brazilian or Boyzilian at the Small band rate.

By area

Where common men's requests fall

Most men come in for one or two areas rather than a full-body session. Each area is priced by its own band, so here is where the usual requests sit.

• Chest: Large, S$68. The stomach is a separate Medium area at S$48.
• Back: full back is Large, S$68. Lower back only is Medium, S$48.
• Shoulders are on the men's menu too. Ask which band applies when you message us.
• Underarms and neck: Medium, S$48 each.
• Nose and nostrils, ears and sideburns: Small, S$28 each.
• Arms: half arms Medium (S$48), full arms Large (S$68). Legs: half legs Large (S$68), full legs Extra Large (S$118).
• Intimate: bikini line Medium (S$48), extended bikini Large (S$68), Boyzilian Extra Large (S$118), with a perianal strip at the Small band rate.

What to expect on the bed

Every wax happens in a closed treatment room with one Aesthetic Specialist. Nobody walks through, and nobody tries to sell you anything while you are lying down.

SkinRev Lab uses warm wax, which removes each hair from the follicle rather than cutting it at the surface. That is why skin stays smooth for weeks rather than days, and why regrowth comes back slower and finer than after shaving.

Areas take about 15 to 45 minutes, depending on size. An underarm takes minutes; a chest or full back takes longer.

To be straight with you: the first session is the most uncomfortable one. The sharp part of each strip lasts a second, and it gets noticeably easier by the third visit as the hair grows back finer. We will not pretend it does not hurt.

Boyzilian

Boyzilian and male Brazilian waxing

A Boyzilian is the men's version of a Brazilian wax, covering the intimate area. At SkinRev Lab it is in the Extra Large band at S$118, GST included, with a first-visit rate of S$68 for new clients. If you want the area fully bare, add the perianal strip at the Small band rate.

It is done in the same private room, by one Aesthetic Specialist, with the door closed. Intimate areas are more sensitive than limbs, especially the first time.

If you want the area tidier rather than fully bare, the bikini line (Medium, S$48) or extended bikini (Large, S$68) may be all you need.

Hair needs to be about 5 mm long for the wax to grip. If you have been shaving, let it grow for two to three weeks first.

Longer term

Want less hair, not just smooth skin? Consider laser

Waxing works, and we do it well. But it has to be repeated every four to six weeks, and the intimate area is where repeated removal most often brings ingrown hairs, bumps and irritation. If your goal is to stop dealing with Boyzilian or Brazilian hair, laser hair removal is usually the better long-term route, and we will tell you so before you book.

Laser hair removal is a medical treatment, so SkinRev Lab does not perform it. It is done by Dr Sin Yong at IN Eternity Clinic, our affiliated clinic at 9 Scotts Road, #12-01 Pacific Plaza, beside Orchard MRT, three stops from City Hall on the North-South line. The clinic uses the Lutronic Clarity II, with 755 nm alexandrite and 1064 nm Nd:YAG wavelengths chosen for your skin tone. It aims for long-term reduction over a course of sessions, not removal of every hair, and it is priced at consultation by the clinic. Chest, back and the beard line on the neck are also commonly treated areas.

Two practical points. Laser depends on pigment in the hair, so it works poorly on white, grey, very blonde or red hair; waxing stays the practical option there. And if you move to laser, stop waxing and plucking about four weeks before your first session and shave instead.

Before you come

Preparing for a wax

• Hair length: about 5 mm, roughly two to three weeks of growth. Shorter than that and the wax has nothing to grip. If you are not sure, come anyway and we will tell you honestly whether to wax today or rebook.
• Exfoliate gently a day or two ahead, and skip moisturiser on the area on the day.
• Go easy on caffeine beforehand if you are sensitive.
• Tell us first if you take oral isotretinoin or use retinoids on the area, or have had recent laser or peels there. The usual guidance is to wait six months after finishing oral isotretinoin and to stop topical retinoids on the area about a week before. Check with your doctor; we would rather reschedule than risk lifting the skin.

Aftercare

Aftercare and ingrown hairs

Expect brief redness. For 24 hours afterwards, skip hot showers, sauna, pool and the gym. If you train most days, book your wax for a rest day.

Keep the area clean and loosely clothed. Start exfoliating again after three days. It is the single most useful thing you can do about ingrown hairs, especially where clothing rubs.

Bumps after waxing are a known effect. In a clinicopathological study of 28 women with follicular bumps after waxing, about a third of cases were a foreign-body reaction to hair shaft or keratin that resembled pseudofolliculitis, the bumps associated with ingrown hairs. That is one reason aftercare and exfoliation matter.

If bumps become painful, spread, fill with pus or do not settle, see a doctor rather than squeezing them.

How often

How often men should wax

Every four to six weeks suits most people. Because waxing removes hair from the root, regrowth is slower and finer than with shaving.

Staying on a rhythm matters more than the exact interval. Hair grows in cycles, and consistent waxing gradually thins what comes back. Leave it too long and you are back to a first-session feel.
