Time Freeze Laser LCLR vs VF Lift which suits your jowls and jawline
Time Freeze Laser LCLR and VF Lift are two of Dr Sin Yong's signature lifting protocols for the lower face. Here is how they work differently, why the cause of your jowls decides between them, and when they are combined.
Quick answer
- Time Freeze Laser LCLR and VF Lift both firm the jowls and jawline without surgery, but they solve different problems. Time Freeze uses laser heat to tighten collagen and remodel small pockets of excess fat or tissue (lipo-remodelling), so it suits a lower face that is heavy. VF Lift uses monopolar radiofrequency applied along vertical lines, so it suits a lower face that has dropped.
- A simple test helps: if gently lifting the cheek upwards restores the jawline, descent is the main issue and VF Lift usually fits. If a heavy pad remains along the jaw after lifting, excess is the main issue and Time Freeze usually comes first.
- Many faces have both, especially after years of fillers, and the two are often combined, usually Time Freeze first to reduce excess, then VF Lift to lift what remains. Both have little downtime, changes build over weeks, and neither replaces a facelift for heavy, folded skin.
- Both are performed by Dr Sin Yong and priced at consultation: VF Lift at SkinRev Lab, CityLink Mall (City Hall MRT), and Time Freeze Laser LCLR at IN Eternity Clinic, Pacific Plaza (Orchard MRT).
The difference
Descent versus excess: why jowls form
Jowls are not one problem. Facial fat sits in separate compartments, and the jowl fat is the lowest of them. With age, the support tissue that holds these compartments loosens, so tissue slides down and gathers along the jaw. That is descent.
In other faces the main issue is excess: a fuller lower face from fat, from filler placed over the years, or from collagen-stimulating injectables that over-responded. Lifting heavy tissue without reducing it can make the lower face look fuller, while reducing tissue that has merely dropped does little for the jawline.
This is the logic behind choosing between Dr Sin Yong's two protocols. VF Lift is built for descent. Time Freeze Laser LCLR is built to tighten and reduce excess. A consultation that separates the two causes matters more than the device.

Time Freeze Laser LCLR
Time Freeze: laser collagen and lipo-remodelling
LCLR stands for Laser Collagen Lipo Remodelling. The protocol scans a long-pulsed laser, using 755 nm and 1064 nm wavelengths, across planned zones. Warming dermal collagen to the right range makes the fibres contract on the day, and the heat triggers new collagen over the following weeks and months.
The lipo-remodelling part directs sustained heat at selected pockets of superficial fat, such as the jowls, under the chin and the buccal area. Fat cells are more sensitive to heat than skin, and the body clears damaged cells gradually. This is a contouring effect on small, pinchable areas, not weight loss and not a substitute for liposuction.
Dr Sin Yong also uses Time Freeze where a lower face became heavy after collagen-stimulating injectables. Hyaluronic acid filler can be dissolved with an enzyme, but these products cannot, so heat-based remodelling is one of the few non-surgical options. Evidence for the protocol itself is limited: in a small split-face study, a single long-pulsed 1064 nm laser treatment improved facial laxity at least as much as a single RF treatment, but no published trial has tested Time Freeze as a protocol.
VF Lift
VF Lift: vertical-vector monopolar RF
VF Lift, short for Vertical Facelift, uses Volnewmer monopolar radiofrequency at 6.78 MHz. Current passes from a water-cooled tip into the skin and returns through a pad elsewhere on the body; the tissue's resistance turns it into heat, warming a broad band of dermis and the fibrous strands that tether skin to deeper layers.
What makes it VF Lift is direction. Rather than spreading energy evenly, Dr Sin Yong maps where the face has dropped and delivers passes along vertical vectors that run against that descent, concentrating heat where support has weakened most. Where deeper support is needed, focused ultrasound can be added to the plan.
In a randomised split-face trial in 22 Asian women, a single session of monopolar RF with continuous water cooling gave lifting, skin volume and wrinkle results comparable to a conventional cryogen-cooled monopolar RF device, with significantly less pain. A separate 3D-scan study of 30 Korean women measured about 1.7 mm of lifting in the lower face one month after one 6.78 MHz session.
Who suits which
Which one suits your jowls?
- VF Lift usually fits: early to moderate jowls that improve when the cheek is lifted, a blurred jawline from loose support, mid-cheek flattening, loose neck skin.
- Time Freeze usually fits: a heavy jowl pad that stays after lifting, soft pinchable fat under the chin, a lower face made fuller by fillers or collagen stimulators.
- Both, in sequence: a face with descent and excess together, which is common after years of injectables.
- Neither alone: lost volume from bone or fat, where support from an injectable may be the first step.
- Surgery is better: heavy, folded excess skin or strong neck bands; energy devices will not meet expectations.
- A wide jaw from a large chewing muscle needs a different assessment, not a lifting or fat treatment.
Combination
Using Time Freeze and VF Lift together
Because descent and excess often coexist, Dr Sin Yong frequently plans both. When excess dominates, Time Freeze usually goes first to reduce the heavy tissue; VF Lift then lifts what remains, so the lift is not working against extra weight. When descent dominates, VF Lift leads and Time Freeze is added only to stubborn pockets.
The order and spacing are set at consultation and reviewed between sessions. Combining does not mean more is better: each step adds heat to the same area, so settings are adjusted, and some people need only one of the two.
Downtime and safety
Downtime, sessions and safety
Both are unsuitable in pregnancy and over infected, broken or inflamed skin. VF Lift is not done with a pacemaker or other implanted electronic device. Time Freeze is postponed on freshly tanned skin and after photosensitising medicines or recent isotretinoin, and eyebrow embroidery in the zone needs care. In Singapore's strong UV, strict sunscreen after either treatment lowers the risk of pigment change. Results vary, and no duration can be promised.
| Time Freeze Laser LCLR | VF Lift | |
|---|---|---|
| Session length | About 45 minutes for full face and neck | Around 60 to 90 minutes for face and neck |
| Straight after | Brief pinkness; back to work and make-up the same day | Redness and warmth that fade within hours |
| Next few days | Fat zones may be warm or tender for one to two days | Jawline or under-chin swelling or tenderness for one to three days |
| When change shows | Some firming on the day; remodelling over weeks to months | Early tightening; lifting builds over weeks |
| Sessions | A planned series, adjusted at review | Planned individually, with maintenance set at review |
Evidence
What the research says, honestly
Monopolar RF at 6.78 MHz has small clinical studies, including a randomised split-face trial, showing modest lifting and good tolerance. In the United States, the Volnewmer device's FDA clearance is for general electrosurgical use rather than specifically for lifting, which is common for energy devices. Laser tightening with long-pulsed 1064 nm has small comparative studies too.
Both VF Lift and Time Freeze Laser LCLR are clinic protocols, meaning a specific way of using the energy, and neither has been tested as a protocol in a published trial. Expect gradual, natural-looking change measured in millimetres, not a surgical result.
Where to go
Time Freeze and VF Lift in our network
Dr Sin Yong performs VF Lift himself at SkinRev Lab, CityLink Mall #B1-28, with an underground link to City Hall and Esplanade MRT. Time Freeze Laser LCLR, as a medical laser, is performed by him at IN Eternity Clinic, 9 Scotts Road, #12-01 Pacific Plaza, beside Orchard MRT. Both are priced at consultation, after he has assessed whether your jowls are mainly descent, excess or both; WhatsApp +65 8815 3008.
For early change or maintenance between doctor-led sessions, SkinRev Lab's SKINLIFT is a non-invasive focused ultrasound session for the jowls and jawline. It is a single-energy option and not a like-for-like substitute for either protocol when sagging or heaviness is established.

Common questions
Your questions,
answered
Is Time Freeze or VF Lift better for jowls?
It depends on why the jowls formed. VF Lift suits jowls caused mainly by descent, where lifting the cheek restores the jawline. Time Freeze Laser LCLR suits a heavy jowl pad from fat, filler or biostimulator over-response. Many people have both and benefit from a combination.
What does LCLR stand for in Time Freeze Laser?
LCLR stands for Laser Collagen Lipo Remodelling. It describes the protocol's two jobs: tightening skin through collagen, and reducing small pockets of excess fat or tissue with controlled laser heat.
What is VF Lift?
VF Lift, or Vertical Facelift, is Dr Sin Yong's protocol using Volnewmer monopolar radiofrequency at 6.78 MHz, delivered along vertical vectors that run against the direction the face has dropped. Focused ultrasound can be added where deeper support is needed.
Can I do Time Freeze and VF Lift together?
Yes, and they are often combined. When the lower face is heavy, Time Freeze usually goes first to reduce excess, then VF Lift lifts what remains. The order and spacing are planned at consultation.
What is the downtime for Time Freeze and VF Lift?
Both have little downtime. Time Freeze may leave brief pinkness and tender fat zones for a day or two. VF Lift may cause redness on the day and jawline tenderness for one to three days. Most people return to work the same day.
Will VF Lift or Time Freeze make my face look thinner?
Time Freeze can reduce small pockets of fat in selected zones, which some people notice as a slimmer jawline. VF Lift does not remove fat; it firms and lifts. A doctor checks whether hollowing is a risk before treating fat in a thin face.
Can Time Freeze help a face that is heavy after fillers?
It is one of the options. Hyaluronic acid filler can be dissolved with an enzyme, but collagen-stimulating products cannot, so heat-based remodelling may help reduce heaviness. A doctor first assesses what product is present and where.
How much do Time Freeze Laser and VF Lift cost in Singapore?
It depends on the zones and the number of sessions. Both are priced at consultation after Dr Sin Yong has examined the face. When comparing anywhere, ask what the full plan includes rather than the price of one session.
