Guide · Rhinoplasty vs nose filler
Rhinoplasty cost in Singapore and how surgery compares with nose filler and threads
A nose can be reshaped by an operation, by filler or by dissolving threads. Here is what drives the cost of surgery, what each option can and cannot change, how long each lasts, the risks, including the rare risk of blindness with nose filler, and how recovery compares.

Quick answer
- Rhinoplasty cost in Singapore is set by a surgeon's quote after an examination, and it depends mainly on the surgeon's fee, the anaesthetist, the hospital or day-surgery facility, whether your own cartilage or an implant is used, and whether it is a first operation or a revision. Cosmetic surgery is not covered by MediShield Life.
- Only surgery can make a nose smaller, remove a hump, straighten it or improve breathing, and the change is long-term. Nose filler adds hyaluronic acid (HA) gel to raise a low bridge or soften a small bump, lasting about 8 to 14 months in a review; a nose thread lift adds a defined line and temporary tip support.
- Filler and threads have far less downtime than surgery, which usually means a general anaesthetic, a splint for about a week and up to two weeks off work. But the nose is the highest-risk area for filler: in a review of 9,657 patients, about 0.27% had a serious complication from a blocked artery, which can mean skin necrosis, blindness or stroke.
- SkinRev Lab does no surgery and no injections. Nose filler and nose thread lifts are performed by Dr Sin Yong at IN Eternity Clinic, Pacific Plaza, and priced at consultation; rhinoplasty itself is done by a plastic surgeon or an ear, nose and throat (ENT) surgeon.
Three routes
Surgery, filler or threads: three different tools
Surgical rhinoplasty is an operation, done by a plastic surgeon or an ENT surgeon. Through incisions inside the nose, sometimes with a small cut between the nostrils, the surgeon reshapes bone and cartilage to reduce, narrow, straighten, lift or build up the nose. For many East Asian noses the aim is height, using an implant or cartilage from the septum, ear or rib.
Nose filler, often called non-surgical rhinoplasty, places small amounts of HA gel deep along the midline, directly over bone and cartilage; most published techniques use less than 1 mL. Because filler only adds volume, it can raise a low bridge, soften a small bump by filling above and below it, and change the angle of the tip slightly. It cannot take anything away.
A nose thread lift uses absorbable polydioxanone (PDO) threads laid along the bridge and, where suitable, up through the columella, the strip of skin between the nostrils, to support the tip. Threads give a narrow, defined line and a little tip lift for a period of months. They refine a nose; they do not replace surgery.
Side by side
What each option can and cannot change
Start with the change you want rather than the procedure. If the goal involves taking anything away, surgery is the only route; if it is mainly height or definition, filler or threads may be enough.
| Goal | Surgical rhinoplasty | Nose filler (HA) | Nose thread lift (PDO) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Raise a low or flat bridge | Yes, with an implant or cartilage | Yes, by adding volume | Yes, as a narrower, more linear lift |
| Soften a small bump | Yes, by removing it | Often, by filling above and below it | Limited |
| Remove a large hump | Yes | No | No |
| Make the nose smaller or narrower | Yes | No; filler adds volume | No |
| Lift or refine the tip | Yes, by reshaping cartilage | A slight change to the tip angle | Some temporary tip support |
| Straighten a crooked nose | Yes | Mild asymmetry can sometimes be camouflaged | No |
| Improve breathing | Yes, if the septum or airway is treated | No | No |
| How long it lasts | Long-term, though the face keeps ageing | About 8 to 14 months in a review | Months; softens as the threads dissolve |
| Can it be undone? | Only with further surgery | HA can be dissolved with hyaluronidase | Problem threads may need surgical removal |
Cost
Rhinoplasty cost in Singapore: what drives the price
There is no single price for a rhinoplasty, because each operation is planned around one nose. A written quote should follow an examination by the surgeon, and it should say what is and is not included.
Cosmetic surgery is not covered by MediShield Life, so the whole amount is usually paid privately. When you compare quotes, check that each one covers the same things:
- The surgeon's fee, which reflects how complex the plan is and the surgeon's experience.
- Anaesthesia: most rhinoplasties are done under general anaesthetic, which adds an anaesthetist's fee.
- The facility: a hospital operating theatre and any overnight stay, or a day-surgery centre.
- Materials: an implant, or your own cartilage; taking cartilage from the rib adds a second site and operating time.
- Scope: tip work alone, building up the bridge, or a full reshaping, and whether breathing surgery on the septum is added.
- First operation or revision: a nose that has been operated on before is usually harder to correct.
- Aftercare: the splint, medicines, follow-up visits and GST.
Permanence
How long each result lasts
Surgery changes the structure of the nose, so the result is long-term, although swelling takes months to settle fully and the face keeps ageing around it. It is not always a single event: in one plastic surgery group's series of 369 cosmetic rhinoplasties, 9.8% went on to have a revision operation, which is worth remembering when you weigh the total cost.
Nose filler is temporary. In a review of eight studies covering 674 patients, the effect of HA filler lasted between 8 and 14 months, so the cost repeats. Some gel can stay in the tissue after the visible effect fades, and repeated top-ups can gradually widen the bridge, which is why further filler should follow a review rather than a schedule.
Thread results soften as the PDO is absorbed, leaving some collagen-rich support along each thread track. How long the effect lasts varies with skin thickness, tip strength and the number of threads used, and published follow-up is short.
Surgical risks
Rhinoplasty risks and recovery, honestly
Serious complications after cosmetic rhinoplasty are uncommon. In a prospective database of 4,978 rhinoplasties in the United States, 0.7% had a major complication within 30 days, most often a haematoma (a collection of blood) or an infection; the risk was higher at age 40 and over and when other operations were done at the same time.
Smaller problems are more frequent. In the group-practice series above, 7.9% had a complication and 15.4% were dissatisfied with some aspect of the result, and a previous nose operation, incomplete correction and complications were all linked with both revision and dissatisfaction. Breathing can occasionally be affected permanently, and implants can become infected, shift or show through the skin and may need removing.
Recovery is also longer. The UK National Health Service notes that swelling can take up to six months to go completely and that the full effect may not show for several months; the table further down compares recovery for all three options.
Filler risk
Nose filler: the risk of blocked vessels and blindness
Most side effects of nose filler are mild. A 2024 systematic review of 30 studies and 9,657 patients found high satisfaction, with redness and swelling the commonest problems. But about 0.27% of patients, roughly 1 in 370, had a serious complication caused by a blocked artery, which can lead to skin necrosis (death of the skin), blindness or stroke.
The reason is anatomy. Arteries on the nose connect with the ophthalmic artery that supplies the eye, so filler that enters or presses on one of them can cut off blood to the nasal skin and, rarely, travel towards the eye. In a review of 48 cases of vision loss after filler published between 2015 and 2018, the nose was involved in 56.3%, only about one in five recovered their vision fully, and no treatment worked consistently.
Prevention therefore matters most: a doctor who knows nasal anatomy, deep midline placement, tiny amounts injected slowly, extra caution after nose surgery or implants, and hyaluronidase on hand. Dissolving HA does not reliably reverse vision loss once it has happened. Watch for these signs:
- Skin on or around the nose turning pale, white, blotchy, purple or dusky: an emergency.
- Pain that keeps increasing rather than settling: urgent.
- Blurred vision, loss of vision, eye pain or a drooping eyelid after filler: an emergency.
- In any of these cases, contact the clinic at once or go to an emergency department.
Threads
Nose thread lift: what it adds, and what can go wrong
Threads suit people who want a crisper, more linear bridge than filler alone gives, or a soft tip that needs a little support, and who would rather limit filler in the nose. They go in under local anaesthetic through one or two tiny entry points, and many people return to work within a day or two.
The main problems are a thread that becomes visible or works its way out, usually at the tip where the skin is thin and under tension, and irregularity along the bridge. In a series of seven patients who needed surgery for thread complications, the threads were still intact years after insertion, and removing them weakened tip support so that grafts of the patient's own tissue were needed. Evidence for nose threads comes from small studies, so a cautious plan and careful patient selection matter.
Recovery
Recovery compared: surgery, filler and threads
Recovery varies with the person and the extent of the work, so follow the advice of whoever treats you. These are typical patterns, not promises.
| Surgical rhinoplasty | Nose filler | Nose thread lift | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Anaesthesia | Usually general anaesthetic | Numbing cream; many HA gels contain a little local anaesthetic | Numbing cream and local anaesthetic |
| The procedure | An operation of about 1.5 to 3 hours; sometimes an overnight stay | A short clinic visit | A short clinic visit through one or two entry points |
| Swelling and bruising | Bruising around the eyes for up to three weeks; swelling can take up to six months to go | Mild swelling and tenderness for a few days | Swelling, tenderness and sometimes bruising for several days |
| Back to work | Up to two weeks off | Usually soon after, with mild swelling | Many return within a day or two |
| What to avoid | Knocks and strenuous exercise while healing, as your surgeon advises | Pressing or heavy glasses on the bridge for about two weeks; saunas and hard exercise for a day or two | Knocks, heavy glasses, contact sports, saunas and hard exercise for the period advised |
| When you see the result | Over several months, as swelling settles | Straight away, clearer once swelling settles | Straight away, refining as swelling settles |
Choosing
Who suits surgery, filler or threads
A useful first question is whether you want to add, define or take away. A good consultation may also end with advice to do less than you planned, or nothing at all.
- Surgery tends to suit a hump you want removed, a nose you want smaller or narrower, a crooked nose, a tip that needs reshaping, breathing problems, and anyone who wants a long-term change and can take about two weeks off.
- Nose filler tends to suit a low or flat bridge, a small bump that can be blended, or a slightly drooping tip, in someone who understands the vascular risk and wants an adjustable, reversible step.
- A nose thread lift tends to suit a low bridge that would look better with a crisp line, or a soft tip that needs support, in skin of average thickness with no previous implants.
- After nose surgery, implants or permanent fillers, be cautious with filler or threads: scar tissue and altered vessels raise the risk.
- If you have a blocked nose, frequent nosebleeds or trouble breathing through one side, see a doctor or ENT surgeon first; no non-surgical procedure will fix them.
- Look at the whole profile: a set-back chin can make a nose look larger, and balancing the chin is sometimes the better first step.
Where to go
Nose filler and threads in our network
Nose filler and nose thread lifts are medical procedures. In our network they are performed by Dr Sin Yong at IN Eternity Clinic, 9 Scotts Road, #12-01 Pacific Plaza, beside Orchard MRT, after an assessment of the bridge, tip, skin thickness and any previous procedures. He places nose filler deep in the midline in small amounts and keeps hyaluronidase on hand. Both are priced at consultation by the clinic, depending on how much filler or how many threads are needed; WhatsApp +65 8815 3008.
SkinRev Lab, at #B1-28 CityLink Mall by City Hall MRT, is a non-invasive centre. It does not perform surgery, filler or threads, and no non-invasive treatment can raise a nose bridge, but it can pass your enquiry to the clinic. If your goals need surgery, such as a smaller nose or easier breathing, the honest next step is a consultation with a plastic surgeon or ENT surgeon.

Common questions
Your questions,
answered
How much does rhinoplasty cost in Singapore?
It depends on the surgeon, the anaesthetist, the facility, whether an implant or your own cartilage is used, how much is changed and whether it is a revision, so a plastic surgeon or ENT surgeon quotes after examining you. Cosmetic surgery is not covered by MediShield Life. Ask for a written quote that lists what is included.
Is nose filler cheaper than rhinoplasty?
On the day, usually yes, but filler is temporary: in a review its effect lasted about 8 to 14 months, so the cost repeats. Compare spending over several years, and remember filler cannot remove a hump or improve breathing. At IN Eternity Clinic, nose filler is priced at consultation.
Can nose filler cause blindness?
Rarely, yes. Arteries on the nose connect with the eye's blood supply, and the nose was the commonest site in a review of 48 recent cases of vision loss after filler. Full recovery of vision is uncommon once it happens, so prevention by a doctor with detailed anatomical knowledge is what matters.
How long does nose filler last?
In a review of eight studies, the effect lasted about 8 to 14 months. Some gel can remain after it stops being visible, so top-ups should follow a review rather than a fixed schedule, which helps avoid a widened bridge.
Rhinoplasty or nose filler for a low nose bridge?
Both can raise a low bridge. Filler is quick, adjustable and temporary, with a rare but serious vascular risk; surgery with an implant or cartilage is long-term but means an operation and about two weeks off work. If you also want the tip reshaped, the nose made smaller or breathing improved, surgery is the route that can do that.
Can nose filler make my nose smaller or remove a hump?
No. Filler adds volume, so it cannot make a nose smaller or narrower. It can sometimes make a small bump less noticeable by filling above and below it, which straightens the profile. Removing a hump needs surgery.
How long is recovery after rhinoplasty?
Most people wear a splint for about a week, have bruising around the eyes for up to three weeks and take up to two weeks off work. Swelling can take up to six months to settle completely, and the full result may take several months to show.
Can I have nose filler after a rhinoplasty?
Sometimes, but it carries more risk, because surgery changes the blood supply and leaves scar tissue, and implants call for extra caution. A careful assessment is needed, and sometimes a surgical opinion is the better choice.
Does SkinRev Lab do rhinoplasty or nose filler?
No. SkinRev Lab is a non-invasive centre and does no surgery or injections. Nose filler and nose thread lifts are performed by Dr Sin Yong at IN Eternity Clinic, Pacific Plaza, and priced at consultation; rhinoplasty is performed by plastic surgeons and ENT surgeons.
