HydraFacial Perk Eye: what it can do for tired eyes, and where it stops

The skin around the eyes is the thinnest on the face, and the main HydraFacial handpiece stays clear of it. Perk Eye is the add-on made for that area. Here is what it does, why dark circles and eye bags are a different matter, what happens in the session, and who should wait.

Quick answer

  • HydraFacial Perk Eye is a short treatment for the skin around the eyes. A small roller-flex applicator with gentle suction lifts away dead skin while an antioxidant serum is applied, worked lightly around the orbital bone.
  • It suits under-eyes that look tired, dry or slightly puffy, and fine dryness lines. The area looks fresher and smoother for a short time.
  • It cannot remove eye bags, fill hollows, or clear dark circles caused by pigment, visible blood vessels or the shape of the bone and fat. Those need a doctor's assessment.
  • At SkinRev Lab, Perk Eye takes about 15 minutes, can be booked alone or added to any HydraFacial tier, and comes with a take-home eye product. Pricing is given at the counter.

What it is

What HydraFacial Perk Eye is

Perk was launched by The HydraFacial Company in 2017, pairing a quick in-clinic exfoliation with products to use at home. It comes in three versions, for the face, the eyes and the lips. Perk Eye is the version for the eye area.

It uses a patented roller-flex applicator designed for small, delicate areas rather than the main HydraFacial handpiece. Gentle suction lifts away dead skin cells while antioxidants are delivered to the surface, and you take home a vial of product to continue with.

The manufacturer describes the treatment as taking around 10 minutes. At SkinRev Lab, we allow about 15 minutes, including preparation. It can be booked on its own or added to a HydraFacial in the same visit.

Delicate skin

Why the eye area needs a gentler treatment

Eyelid skin is the thinnest on the face. In a study that measured skin at 39 points on the face, the thinnest dermis was on the upper inner eyelid, at about 0.76 mm, against about 1.97 mm on the lower side of the nose. Thin skin shows dryness, fine lines and the colour of what lies beneath it more readily.

That is why the HydraFacial peel and the main handpiece are kept away from the eyes, and why Perk Eye uses a small applicator with light suction instead. The eye area also moves constantly with blinking and expression, and is often rubbed, especially by people with allergies, so dryness lines show early.

If your under-eyes are dry and crepey rather than dark or hollow, a gentle surface treatment with good daily moisturising can make a visible difference.

Honest limits

Dark circles, eye bags and lines: what Perk Eye can and cannot change

Dark circles have several causes, often at once: the shape of the bone and fat beneath the eye, which creates a shadowed tear trough; changes in the soft tissue with age; and the skin itself, through pigment or thin skin that lets blood vessels show. A review of the subject lists treatments from make-up and cosmeceuticals to laser, fillers and surgery, chosen by cause.

A surface treatment works on only one of those layers.

  • Can help: dryness, flaky or rough under-eye skin, fine dryness lines, and a tired, dull look for a short time.
  • May help briefly: the look of mild morning puffiness.
  • Cannot change: eye bags from fat, hollows or a deep tear trough, pigment-based dark circles, or visible veins.
  • Cannot change: deep wrinkles or loose eyelid skin.

The 15 minutes

What happens during Perk Eye

Eye make-up is removed first. If you wear contact lenses, it is simplest to take them out beforehand, so bring your case. Your eyes stay closed throughout.

The applicator is worked lightly around the orbital bone, the bony rim you can feel around the eye, in short passes, never on the lash line itself. A serum is applied as it goes, and an eye product is pressed in to finish. Most people feel a gentle pull and a cool, soothing sensation.

Afterwards, you can usually wear eye make-up the same day. Avoid rubbing your eyes for the rest of the day, and stop using anything that stings.

Suitability and booking

Who Perk Eye suits, who should wait, and booking

Perk Eye suits people whose under-eyes look tired, dry or lined from dehydration, people preparing for an event, and HydraFacial clients who want the eye area treated in the same visit. If your main concern is hollows, eye bags or pigment, Dr Sin Yong, MBBS (Singapore), MRCS (Edinburgh), MSc Practical Dermatology (Cardiff), can assess the cause first.

Please wait if you have an eye infection such as a stye or conjunctivitis, eczema or a rash around the eyes, or a recent eyelid procedure, and tell us about any recent injections around the eyes.

At SkinRev Lab, #B1-28 CityLink Mall by City Hall MRT, Perk Eye takes about 15 minutes and can be booked alone or with any HydraFacial tier. It is priced separately; ask at the counter or on WhatsApp at +65 8266 9585. Before an event, book it two to five days ahead.

Your questions,
answered

What is HydraFacial Perk Eye?

A short treatment for the eye area that uses a small roller-flex applicator with gentle suction to lift away dead skin while an antioxidant serum is applied.

Does Perk Eye get rid of dark circles?

No. It can make the area look fresher and smoother, but dark circles from pigment, blood vessels or hollows need a doctor's assessment.

Does Perk Eye remove eye bags?

No. Eye bags are mainly fat and structure beneath the skin, which a surface treatment cannot change.

How long does Perk Eye take?

About 15 minutes at SkinRev Lab, on its own or after a HydraFacial in the same visit.

Is Perk Eye suitable for the delicate eye area?

Yes, it is designed for it. The applicator is worked lightly around the orbital bone with your eyes closed, and is not used on irritated or infected skin.

Can I wear contact lenses during Perk Eye?

It is simplest to take them out beforehand. Bring your case and glasses if you need them afterwards.

How long do Perk Eye results last?

Usually a few days. The take-home eye product and a good daily moisturiser help the smoother look last longer.

Pricing is given at the counter or on WhatsApp at +65 8266 9585, because Perk is priced separately from the HydraFacial tiers.
