Emsculpt vs HIFEM Body Sculpting one brand, one technology, and how to compare
Emsculpt is a brand. HIFEM, high-intensity focused electromagnetic stimulation, is the technology behind it, and other devices use the same principle. Here is what Emsculpt and Emsculpt NEO are, what the research shows, and how SKINSCULPT at SkinRev Lab compares.
Quick answer
- Emsculpt is made by BTL. It uses a high-intensity focused electromagnetic (HIFEM) field to make muscles contract far harder than you can by choice, to build muscle tone in areas such as the abdomen and buttocks.
- Emsculpt NEO, also by BTL, adds radiofrequency heating to the same session, aimed at fat as well as muscle.
- SkinRev Lab does not offer Emsculpt or Emsculpt NEO. Our SKINSCULPT uses the same electromagnetic muscle-stimulation principle, without radiofrequency: about 30 minutes per region, fully clothed.
- SKINSCULPT is S$288 per region, with a first region at S$68, before GST. Regions are the abdomen, buttocks, thighs, arms and pelvic floor.
Brand and technology
Emsculpt is a brand, HIFEM is the technology
When people search for Emsculpt in Singapore, they are usually looking for electromagnetic body sculpting in general. Emsculpt is one brand of it, made by BTL, and it is the device used in many of the published studies. BTL lists HIFEM among its trademarks, but the term is now widely used for the technology itself, and other manufacturers make devices built on the same principle.
So the useful comparison is not Emsculpt against a rival name. It is what the device does, how strong and how long the stimulation is, which areas it treats, and who assesses you. That is how this page compares them.
SkinRev Lab, our non-invasive aesthetic centre at CityLink Mall, does not offer Emsculpt or Emsculpt NEO. We offer SKINSCULPT, which works on the same muscle-stimulation principle.
How HIFEM works
Contractions you could not make yourself
A HIFEM device places a flat applicator over a muscle group and sends a strong, focused electromagnetic field into it. The field triggers rapid, involuntary contractions, often described as supramaximal because they recruit more of the muscle than voluntary effort can. A single session delivers thousands of them.
Over a course, the muscle adapts to that workload, which is the basis for firmer tone and definition. Studies of HIFEM devices have also measured a modest reduction in the fat layer over the treated muscle, but the main effect is on muscle. It is not a substitute for reducing a thick layer of fat, and it does not change your weight.
It feels like an intense workout without the effort: deep, strong contractions with a tapping rhythm, ramped up gradually to your comfort. You stay clothed. Mild muscle soreness the next day is common.
Emsculpt NEO
What Emsculpt NEO adds
Emsculpt NEO combines HIFEM with radiofrequency heating in the same applicator and the same session. BTL describes it as synchronised radiofrequency heating to target fat, delivered simultaneously with muscle stimulation, in a 30-minute session.
In practice, that makes Emsculpt NEO a two-in-one device: muscle stimulation plus heat aimed at the fat layer. Original Emsculpt, and SKINSCULPT, are muscle stimulation only. If fat is your main concern, the more useful question is whether you need a dedicated fat treatment alongside muscle work, rather than which brand to choose.
At SkinRev Lab
SKINSCULPT: electromagnetic muscle strengthening
SKINSCULPT uses a high-intensity electromagnetic field to trigger strong, involuntary contractions in one region per placement. Sessions take about 30 minutes per region, fully clothed, with no gels. For the pelvic floor, you sit on a dedicated chair applicator. Most clients return to their day straight away, sometimes with mild muscle soreness the next day.
It suits adults who want firmer, stronger muscle tone alongside exercise, in the abdomen, buttocks, thighs, arms or pelvic floor. After pregnancy, have your postnatal check and any abdominal separation assessed first. A course is planned at your assessment, and results vary.
Where there is also a soft layer of fat, SKINSCULPT is often paired with SKINSHAPE, a microwave contouring treatment for pinchable fat, so that one works on fat and the other on the muscle beneath.
- SKINSCULPT, per region, per session: S$288 before GST.
- First visit: S$68 for one region, before GST, once per new client.
- With GST at 9%: S$313.92 per region.

The evidence
What the published studies show
A 2024 systematic review in Aesthetic Plastic Surgery found 15 clinical studies of Emsculpt and Emsculpt NEO for body contouring. The typical protocol was four treatments over two to four weeks. For the abdomen, the reported averages were a 5.5 mm reduction in fat thickness and a 2 mm increase in muscle thickness. No complications were reported, two studies found marginal or no benefit, and the authors pointed to gaps in how some studies reported their data.
An earlier MRI study of 22 people who had four abdominal treatments with Emsculpt reported, at two months, an average 18.6% reduction in fat thickness and a 15.4% increase in rectus abdominis thickness, with no significant change in weight.
These are study averages for BTL devices, measured under study conditions. They are not figures for SKINSCULPT and not a prediction for any individual. They do support the basic idea: electromagnetic muscle stimulation changes muscle, with a smaller effect on fat.
Price and value
Emsculpt price in Singapore: what to compare
Prices for electromagnetic body sculpting vary widely between providers, and a headline figure rarely tells you the whole cost. Compare like with like by asking:
- Which device, by name? If a provider says Emsculpt or Emsculpt NEO, it should be BTL's device. If it is another machine, that is fine, but it should be named.
- Per area or per session? Some prices cover one region, others a body area that needs more than one placement.
- How many sessions are proposed, and why? Studies typically used around four; a responsible plan explains its number rather than selling a large package by default.
- Is radiofrequency included? NEO-type sessions combine heat and muscle work; muscle-only sessions do not, and should cost accordingly.
- Who assesses you? Ask whether your health, any implants and pregnancy plans are checked before the first session.
- Before or after GST, and is a low price a one-time first-visit rate?
Suitability
Who it suits, and who should check first
SkinRev Lab is at #B1-28 CityLink Mall, 1 Raffles Link, Singapore 039393, on the underground link between City Hall MRT and Esplanade MRT, open daily 11am to 8pm. WhatsApp +65 8266 9585 to book an assessment.
- Suits: adults close to a stable weight who want firmer abdominal, buttock, thigh or arm tone, or pelvic floor support, alongside regular activity.
- Pair it, do not rely on it: if a soft fat layer hides the muscle, a fat treatment such as SKINSHAPE or SKINUSHAPE usually belongs in the plan too.
- After pregnancy: wait for your postnatal check, and have any abdominal separation assessed. Muscle stimulation supports core strength but is not a treatment for diastasis recti.
- Tell us first: if you are pregnant or trying to conceive, have a pacemaker, metal or electronic implants, or a health condition. Suitability is checked at assessment before anything is booked.
- See a doctor instead: for pelvic pain, significant incontinence or a hernia, which need medical assessment.

Common questions
Your questions,
answered
Does SkinRev Lab offer Emsculpt?
No. SkinRev Lab does not offer Emsculpt or Emsculpt NEO. We offer SKINSCULPT, which uses the same electromagnetic muscle-stimulation principle, without radiofrequency.
What is the difference between Emsculpt and HIFEM?
HIFEM, high-intensity focused electromagnetic stimulation, is the technology. Emsculpt is BTL's brand of HIFEM device. Other devices use the same principle under different names.
What is Emsculpt NEO?
BTL's device that combines HIFEM muscle stimulation with radiofrequency heating in the same 30-minute session, aimed at both muscle and the fat layer.
How much is SKINSCULPT?
S$288 per region per session before GST, or S$313.92 with 9% GST. New clients can have one region at S$68 before GST on the first visit.
Does HIFEM burn fat?
Its main effect is on muscle. Studies of HIFEM devices report a modest reduction in fat thickness over treated muscle, but it is not a replacement for a dedicated fat treatment, and it does not change body weight.
Does it hurt?
It feels like strong, deep muscle contractions with a tapping rhythm. Intensity is increased gradually to what you can manage, and mild muscle soreness the next day is common.
How many sessions will I need?
It varies. Your plan is set at assessment. The published studies on BTL devices mostly used about four treatments, but that is not a SkinRev course, and results vary.
Can I do it after having a baby?
After your postnatal check and an assessment of any abdominal separation. Muscle stimulation supports core strength but is not a treatment for diastasis recti.
