Lymphatic drainage massage in Singapore: what it helps, what it does not, and where to have it
Lymphatic drainage massage is a very light, slow, rhythmic technique that moves fluid towards the lymph nodes. It can ease puffiness and swelling for a while, but it does not remove fat or detox the body. At SkinRev Lab, CityLink Mall, Aesthetic Therapists use facial lymphatic drainage within the Rejuran PDRN Facial; body lymphatic drainage is not offered.

Quick answer
- Lymphatic drainage uses very light, slow strokes that gently stretch the skin towards the lymph nodes. It is not deep tissue massage; firm pressure squashes the small vessels it is meant to help.
- It helps most with fluid: morning puffiness, heavy legs and swelling after procedures. In a small study, the side of the face treated after wisdom tooth surgery swelled less than the untreated side.
- It does not burn fat, cause lasting weight loss or detox the body; the liver and kidneys do that. Lymphoedema is a medical condition treated by specialist therapists.
- SkinRev Lab offers facial lymphatic drainage technique within the Rejuran PDRN Facial. Hydrafacial's own menu lists a lymphatic drainage step in its Platinum tier. Body lymphatic drainage massage is not offered.

The evidence
What lymphatic drainage can and cannot do
Lymph is the clear fluid that collects in the tissues and drains back through vessels and nodes. It has no central pump and relies on muscle movement and breathing, so fluid can pool when you sit or stand for long periods. Gentle drainage follows those routes to help it move.
The evidence is strongest for swelling. In a small study of 10 patients after wisdom tooth removal, manual lymph drainage on one side of the face reduced swelling compared with the untreated side. For everyday puffiness, the effect is modest and lasts hours rather than days.
Lymphatic drainage was developed as a medical therapy, and the NHS lists it as one part of decongestive lymphatic therapy for lymphoedema, alongside compression, skin care and exercise. That is a different, medical service. The visible slimming after a beauty session is fluid, and it returns.
Who should avoid it
Who this is not suitable for
Gentle does not mean suitable for everyone. Get medical clearance first, or skip it, in these situations.
- Fever, an active infection or cellulitis.
- A current or previous blood clot, or a suddenly painful, swollen calf: see a doctor urgently.
- Heart failure or kidney failure.
- Active cancer, or swelling after cancer treatment: this needs a lymphoedema specialist.
- Recent surgery: only on your surgeon's advice.
- New, one-sided or unexplained swelling: see a doctor, not a therapist.

Common questions
Your questions,
answered
What is lymphatic drainage massage?
A very light, slow, rhythmic technique that gently stretches the skin towards the lymph nodes to help fluid move. It is not a deep tissue massage.
Does lymphatic drainage massage help you lose weight?
No. It can reduce fluid puffiness for a while, so you may look less bloated, but it does not remove fat or change body weight for long.
Does lymphatic drainage help with swelling?
Yes, for fluid-related swelling, though the effect is temporary. Use it after surgery only on your surgeon's advice, and see a doctor for lymphoedema or new swelling on one side.
Does lymphatic drainage detox the body?
No. Lymph returns to the bloodstream, and waste is cleared by the liver and kidneys as usual.
Is lymphatic drainage good for cellulite?
The evidence is weak. Any smoothing straight after a session is mainly fluid, and it fades.
How often should you have lymphatic drainage?
It depends on the reason. For general puffiness and wellbeing, many people find fortnightly or monthly sessions enough; medical lymphoedema care follows a specialist's plan.
Does SkinRev Lab offer body lymphatic drainage massage?
No. SkinRev Lab uses facial lymphatic drainage technique within the Rejuran PDRN Facial and does not offer body lymphatic drainage.
Who should not have lymphatic drainage massage?
People with fever or infection, a blood clot, heart or kidney failure, active cancer or recent surgery should get medical clearance first or avoid it.
