Guide · Choosing a facial
How to choose a good facial in Singapore a checklist to use before you book anywhere
A good facial is not the most expensive one or the most advertised one. It is the one matched to your skin, done cleanly by a trained therapist on genuine equipment, at a price you know before you lie down. Here is how to judge that, wherever you book.
Quick answer
- A good facial in Singapore is the one matched to your main skin goal, done hygienically by a trained therapist on genuine equipment, at a full price you know before you start. No single facial suits every skin, so the right choice starts with what your skin needs now.
- Before booking, check what the therapist will look at first, how extraction is done, which device and products are used, how many minutes you are actually treated, and whether the price includes GST.
- Be ready to say no to packages. The Consumers Association of Singapore (CASE) recorded 1,124 beauty complaints in the first half of 2026, with prepayment losses above S$1.9 million, and advises avoiding large advance payments. Pay for one session first.
- A facial cannot treat melasma, deep acne scars, painful cystic acne or rosacea; those need a doctor. At SkinRev Lab, CityLink Mall, an Aesthetic Specialist assesses your skin before recommending anything and tells you when a doctor is the better route.
Start with the goal
Match the facial to your skin goal
A facial that clears congested skin can be too much for reactive skin, and one built for long-term skin quality will not give the same-day freshness you want before an event. So decide what bothers you most right now, then look for the treatment built for it.
The table below is a starting point. Most people have more than one concern; a good therapist will tell you which to deal with first rather than stacking everything into one session.
| Main goal | What usually helps | At SkinRev Lab (before GST) |
|---|---|---|
| Blackheads and congestion | Cleansing, gentle exfoliation and careful extraction | HydraFacial Syndeo, 45 minutes, S$288 to S$438 |
| Tight, dehydrated skin | Gentle cleansing and water-binding serums, no harsh scrubbing | HydraFacial Syndeo; Needleless SkinBooster, S$288 per region |
| Red, sensitive or reactive skin | Calming treatment, little or no extraction | SKINLDM with a basic facial, about 30 minutes, S$288 |
| Dull or uneven-looking skin | Exfoliation, hydration and brightening actives | HydraFacial Syndeo with a booster; Needleless SkinBooster with a tone booster |
| Texture and skin quality over time | A planned course rather than one session | Rejuran® PDRN Facial (needle-free), 60 to 90 minutes, S$128 to S$348 |
| Melasma, deep scars, cystic acne, rosacea | Medical diagnosis and treatment | A doctor, not a facial |
The assessment
What a good therapist checks before starting
A careful first visit starts with questions and a close look at your skin, not with a menu. If nobody asks about your skin before recommending a treatment, the recommendation is a guess.
Expect to be asked about the points below. If something rules out a step, such as extraction on inflamed skin, a good therapist will say so and change the plan.
- Your skin type: oily, dry, combination, and whether it feels tight after cleansing.
- Active breakouts, especially red, painful or deep spots that should not be squeezed.
- Redness, flushing or stinging that may point to sensitised skin or rosacea.
- Pigment patterns, such as patches on both cheeks that could be melasma.
- What you use at home: retinoids, exfoliating acids and any prescription acne treatment.
- Recent procedures such as lasers, peels or injections, and when they were done.
- Allergies, pregnancy, and any upcoming event, so the timing leaves room for brief redness.
Hygiene and extraction
Hygiene and extraction: what good practice looks like
Hygiene is easy to see if you look for it. Hands are washed or gloved, linen is fresh, tools are single-use or cleaned and sterilised between clients, and products are dispensed rather than scooped from a shared jar with fingers. For HydraFacial, the single-use tip should be opened for you.
Extraction suits blackheads and whiteheads, after the skin has been softened. It should be gentle and limited. The American Academy of Dermatology warns that squeezing spots can push material deeper, cause infection and leave permanent scars, and that deep, painful cysts need a doctor.
In Asian skin, rough extraction and over-exfoliation also raise the risk of dark marks after inflammation (post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, PIH), which can take months to fade. Vacuum extraction, as in HydraFacial Syndeo, lifts congestion by suction rather than squeezing. Milia have no opening and should not be pressed at all.
Genuine equipment
Is the device genuine? How to check
Branded facials are often copied. Hydrafacial requires every provider to hold a trademark licence to use the HydraFacial name and order its official tips and serums, and second-hand machines must be recertified before they can be used under that name. Many hydradermabrasion facials run on other machines; they can be pleasant, but they are not the same system.
Ask to see the device, the serums and the tip being opened, and ask the brand and model of any other machine used on your face. SkinRev Lab holds HydraFacial's 2026 Certificate of Authenticity and runs every session on the HydraFacial Syndeo with single-use tips and genuine serums.
Injections and medical lasers are a different category. If one is offered alongside a facial, ask who performs it. You can check that a doctor is registered on the Singapore Medical Council's online register. In our network, these are performed by Dr Sin Yong at IN Eternity Clinic and priced at consultation.
Trial prices and packages
Trial prices, packages and how to say no
A low first-visit price is a normal way to let you try a place. The risk is what follows. CASE reported 1,124 beauty complaints in the first half of 2026, with prepayment losses above S$1.9 million; nearly four in ten involved businesses not honouring contracts, and 15.3% involved unethical sales tactics. Its advice is to pay per use or in smaller instalments rather than prepaying for large packages.
In 2020 the Competition and Consumer Commission of Singapore (CCCS) acted against two beauty businesses that used a S$38 facial offer as a lure, performed services customers had not agreed to, then pressed them into 10-session packages costing from a few hundred to a few thousand dollars.
- Ask exactly what the trial price includes, and which add-ons are charged on the day.
- Ask how many minutes are spent treating your skin, not how long you are in the building.
- Check whether GST (9%) is extra: a S$68 price before GST is S$74.12 at the counter.
- Know the standard price you will pay from the second visit.
- Pay for the session you came for; take any package terms home in writing.
- A price that only exists if you sign today is a reason to pause.
Red flags
Red flags that should make you walk away
- Nobody asks about your skin, medicines or recent treatments before starting.
- Promises of permanent results, total clearance or ‘whitening in one session’.
- Pressure to buy a package while you are still on the treatment bed.
- Extra steps added without asking, then charged at the end.
- Squeezing red, painful or deep spots, or pressing milia.
- A branded treatment with no device, tips or serums you can see.
- Unlabelled creams or ‘whitening’ products; HSA has found mercury and prescription-only hydroquinone in creams sold here.
- Injections or prescription creams offered without a doctor.
Questions to ask
Questions to ask before you book a recommended facial
A recommended facial is only useful if the recommendation fits you. These questions are fair to ask any provider, including us, and a good one will answer them without hesitation.
- Which treatment do you suggest for my skin, and why that one?
- Which device, tips and products will be used?
- Who will treat me, and how were they trained on this device?
- How long is the treatment itself?
- What is the full price with GST, and what is the price from the second visit?
- What should I expect afterwards, and how soon can I wear make-up?
- How often should I come back, and when should I see a doctor instead?
Realistic results
How often, and what a realistic result looks like
A cleansing facial gives a fresher look the same day, but it is maintenance, not a cure. For most people in Singapore, a cleansing facial every four to six weeks is a sensible rhythm; skin-quality courses follow their own planned intervals.
The research on branded facials is small. In one open-label HydraFacial study of 20 adults with mild to moderate acne, six treatments two weeks apart increased the share rated clear or almost clear from 20% to 65% by investigators; there was no control group, and one author was employed by the manufacturer. Treat claims of dramatic change with caution, and results vary.
When it is medical
When to see a doctor instead of booking a facial
Some skin problems look cosmetic but are medical. A facial can support treatment, but it should not replace it.
- Painful, cystic or scarring acne, or acne that has not improved after weeks of consistent treatment.
- Persistent redness, flushing or visible veins that may be rosacea.
- Brown patches on both cheeks, forehead or upper lip that may be melasma.
- Any spot that is new, changing, bleeding or irregular.
- Red, itchy, scaly or cracked skin that may be eczema or dermatitis.
- Deep acne scars, which need procedures rather than facials.

Common questions
Your questions,
answered
How do I find a good facial in Singapore?
Look for a place that asks about your skin before recommending anything, explains each step, uses equipment and products you can see, publishes per-session prices, and does not push a prepaid package on your first visit. Then choose the facial built for your main concern.
Which facial is recommended for my skin type?
Congested or oily skin usually suits a cleansing facial with gentle extraction; dehydrated skin suits hydrating facials and boosters; sensitive or red skin suits calming treatments with little extraction. Texture and skin quality respond to a planned course. An in-person assessment should confirm the choice.
What is a good facial for a first visit?
One that cleans and hydrates without stressing the skin, so you can see how your skin responds. At SkinRev Lab, HydraFacial Syndeo (first-timer rate at the counter) or SKINLDM (S$68 for the first visit, before GST) are common starting points, chosen after an assessment.
Is a facial trial in Singapore worth it?
It can be, if you know exactly what is included, how long you are treated, whether GST is extra and what you pay from the second visit. Pay only for the session, and do not sign up for a package on the bed. CASE advises paying per use or in smaller instalments.
How much does a facial cost in Singapore?
Prices vary with the treatment, time and products. At SkinRev Lab, facials range from S$128 for a 60-minute Rejuran® PDRN Facial to S$438 for Platinum HydraFacial Syndeo, before GST. Wherever you go, compare the full price with GST and the real treatment time.
Is facial extraction safe?
Gentle extraction of blackheads and whiteheads on softened skin is generally fine. Squeezing red, deep or painful spots can push inflammation deeper and leave scars or dark marks, so those should be left for a doctor. Milia should not be pressed.
How can I tell if a HydraFacial is genuine?
Ask to see the HydraFacial device, the serums and the single-use tip being opened. Hydrafacial requires providers to hold a trademark licence, and second-hand machines must be recertified. Other hydradermabrasion machines are not the HydraFacial system.
Can I refuse a package after a facial?
Yes. You can pay for the session and leave. If you feel pressured or were charged for services you did not agree to, CASE can advise you, and CCCS has acted against beauty businesses for such practices.
When should I see a doctor instead of getting a facial?
For painful or scarring acne, persistent redness, suspected melasma, deep acne scars, itchy or scaly rashes, or any spot that is new or changing. In our network, Dr Sin Yong assesses these at IN Eternity Clinic, Pacific Plaza, with treatment priced at consultation.
