Milia removal cost in Singapore: what shapes the price, and why a doctor checks first

Milia removal cost depends on how many milia there are, where they sit, which method suits them and whether the bumps are confirmed as milia. At SkinRev Lab, CityLink Mall, Dr Sin Yong examines and removes milia, usually by opening each one with a sterile needle and lifting out the core, and treatment is priced at consultation.

Quick answer

  • The cost of milia removal depends on the number of milia, their site (eyelids take more care), the method, whether the bumps need to be told apart from lookalikes such as syringomas, and any follow-up.
  • Milia are tiny keratin cysts with no opening, so facials and squeezing cannot clear them. Removal is a doctor's procedure; a few milia can often be done in one short visit.
  • At SkinRev Lab and IN Eternity Clinic, Dr Sin Yong assesses and removes milia. Medical treatment is priced at consultation, after he has seen how many there are and where.
  • Many milia clear on their own over months, so removal is optional unless they bother you or the diagnosis is uncertain.

The factors

What changes the cost of milia removal

Because these vary from person to person, a fair price can only be given after the bumps have been examined.

  • Number of milia: a handful can often be removed in one visit; dozens may need more time or more than one session.
  • Site: milia on the eyelids or close to the lash line need more care and time than milia on the cheek.
  • Type: single primary milia are simpler than milia that follow blistering or injury, or milia en plaque on an inflamed patch.
  • Diagnosis: some under-eye bumps are syringomas, xanthelasma or small cysts, which are treated differently.
  • Method: needle extraction, electrosurgery, cryotherapy, laser or prescription treatment each take different time and equipment.
  • Follow-up: new milia can form, and widespread milia may need a review visit.

Methods

How the method affects the result as well as the price

DermNet, the dermatologist-written reference, lists the same options below. The method follows the diagnosis, the number and the site.

Radiofrequency or electrosurgeryMany small milia in one visitSmall scabs; small risk of temporary redness or pigment changeMore time and equipment
CryotherapyMilia away from the eyelidsUsed less on the face because of pale patches in Asian skinVaries with area

Avoid false savings

Why home extraction and facials cost more in the end

A milium has no pore opening, so pressing it does nothing except bruise the skin. Facials, including HydraFacial and manual extraction, cannot clear milia for the same reason. Repeated squeezing near the eyes can leave marks that take longer to settle than the milium itself.

Avoid needles, lancets and acids sold for home use. They risk infection and scarring, and they can disguise a bump that should have been examined. A review of milia notes that secondary or unusual milia can point to an underlying skin problem, which is another reason for a doctor to look first.

Who should wait

Who this is not suitable for

Removal is usually postponed, or the plan changed, in these situations.

  • Newborn babies: milia are very common and usually clear within weeks without treatment.
  • An active infection, cold sore or rash in the area.
  • Bumps that appear in crops, sit on a red or itchy patch, or follow blistering: these need a diagnosis first.
  • A single bump that is enlarging, shiny or bleeding: it needs a closer look, not extraction.
  • A strong tendency to keloid scars, or blood thinners: tell the doctor, as the method may change.
  • Wanting milia removed in a facial salon: milia removal involves breaking the skin and is a doctor's procedure.

Common questions

Your questions,
answered

How much does it cost to remove milia in Singapore?

It depends on how many milia there are, where they sit, the method and whether the diagnosis needs confirming. At SkinRev Lab, Dr Sin Yong examines them first and removal is priced at consultation.

How much does it cost to remove a milia?

A single milium is usually quick to remove, but the price still depends on its site and on confirming it is a milium. At SkinRev Lab it is priced at consultation.

How do Koreans remove milia?

The medical methods are the same in Korea and Singapore: opening each milium with a sterile needle and lifting out the core, electrosurgery, or laser for extensive milia. There is no special home method that works safely.

Can a facial remove milia?

No. Milia have no opening, so facial extraction or a HydraFacial cannot clear them. They need a doctor.

Does milia removal hurt?

Most people feel only a brief prick. Numbing cream can be used on sensitive areas such as the eyelids.

Will milia come back after removal?

A removed milium does not usually return, but new ones can form, especially if the cause, such as heavy eye creams or sun damage, continues.

Is milia removal safe near the eyes?

Yes, when done by a doctor with a fine sterile technique. Cryotherapy is usually avoided on the eyelids.
